I just thought I'd jot down a few observations of SS Dungeon Crawl
that don't belong in the "Bugs" reporting web site.
Things I like:
========
*the Bazaar is way cool. Who would pass up such an opportunity?
Although, perhaps there should be an element of danger or uncertainty
in the shops.
*there is a new area, the Shoals, that I have not seen before, and
it's fun! In fact I would rate it even higher than the wonderful Slime
Pits.
*there are New monsters, New spells, New races, New classes
(artificer), and New items! All of this adds spice to the game.
*the maps have new design features, and hostile statues are handled
better in the Tiles version. You can know for sure the range of the
statue's influence.
Last but most certainly not least--in fact this shoulda been first:

Well ... I have a lvl 23 High Elf Crusader with ice storm and long
swords, and I found my first legendary deck... Being greedy, I saved
scummed to experiment with the deck, which led to a very stupid
death. But now I cannot restore my file at all ... basically, I lost
an awesome character because I didn't know there was some crazy
protection scheme in Dungeon Crawl.
So my question is
-- goddamn it what is going on with Dungeon Crawl
stone souup? Is it timestamps, or what?
Btw. I have a copy of the /var/games/crawl directory, and I'm playing
on a kind of exotic Linux machine, the N810. Any help on where else
crawl is writing would be appreciated.

I'm another ADOM player, recently adicted to Crawl : )
I have cleared Orc, Lair, Swamp, Snake, Slime, Hive,
and the dungeon levels to 19. I am now in Vault 2.
The last time I got a conjurer this far, I had the
crystal spear spell. This time I don't, and I feel
like I'm really going to need it soon. Is there a
way to increase my chances of getting it?
There are two scrolls of acquirement in shops, one
selling for ~450, and one for ~900. Are these worth
buying? I quickly dove to ~D:24, to use a few of
them earlier, thinking that a deeper dungeon level
would yield better items. I recieved a nice ring, a
miserable suit of armor, and a lousy book. Considering
that, I'm now leaning toward using the gold for a
potion of experience on sale for ~750. The problem is,
I don't know exactly what to expect from one of these.
Will it give me a whole level, or just a small boost?

(Joke answer: use the tiles version.)
When I set the charset to dec, I get blocks for walls and crosses for
doors. Is that not what you're looking for? (Maybe somebody who knows
better can answer you here.)

Yeah, that one always catches people by surprise.

Very wise move. I usually am so offended at the frog's recovery that
I insist on battling it once more. Which would explain why I don't
ascend very often.

Akoi Meex deserves your thanks for the tileset. If it were left in my
hands, I assure you, you'd be preferring the ASCII :>

I disagree. It would defeat the whole reason why it is called a y-
rune. "Why the heck is there this y-rune in this game?"
