MetaCollider beta 3 released, now for Windows

Author: Pointless
Date: Sep 21, 2008 14:05

MetaCollider beta release 3 is up for download, now with a Windows
executable. I've also added a script that allows users adjust their
resolution, font size, and/or run in fullscreen, if you download the -
source-. To do this, open up settings.py with any text editor and
follow the directions given in the comments. The Windows version runs
in 800x600 in 12 point font. I've also fixed a crashing bug and given
monsters more skills.

http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/metacollider

I would love to hear comments good or constructive sent to my email
address.

Here's the readme:

Windows Distribution:
--------------------
MetaCollider can be played with a single download on Windows systems.
Just download the Windows distribution and run the executable.

  RLLib released!

Author: Nate879
Date: Sep 21, 2008 13:55

RLLib is a library intended to make writing roguelike games easier. It
offers 24-bit color, and many other features. This is the first
release. Download it at my website, http://nate879.org/.

Features:
* 24-bit color
* Modify individual pixels or characters
* Simple API (programming interface)
* Runs on Windows and X11
* Doesn't depend on any other libraries
* Small amount of code, and no unnecessary features

I know that libtcod offers most of these features, but I think it's
very complicated, and it relies on several other libraries. RLLib
doesn't need any other libraries, and is less bloated.

By the way, the name RLLib is temporary, and stands for roguelike
library.

GearHead2 v0.510, Roots of the Beanpole

Author: Joe Hewitt
Date: Sep 19, 2008 09:58

GearHead2 v0.510 has just been released to the public. The big
addition this time around is the Beanpole Campaign.

As many of you know, GearHead uses a random story generator for the
player character's main quest. The Beanpole is a campaign of 13
episodes with limited randomization which should be able to work for
any character or faction. I'm developing it so that GH2 will become
completable as quickly as possible; there's only so much playtesting
you can do of a game which doesn't have a victory condition. Once the
Beanpole is in place, additional components can be added and the story
generator returned to true randomness. The Beanpole will remain as a
failsafe; it can be woven in with other components, and in theory
should work to prevent the story from ever reaching a dead end.

The second big change is that certain models can now blow up when they
get destroyed. Be careful about playing croquet with radioactive rats.

Here's the complete list of changes:
- Added Atgeir, Harkney, and Ice Wind mecha
- First four episodes of the BeanPole campaign
- Reduced cost of High Output engines (ghsupport.pp)
- Fixed “frozen enemiesâ€

  Legerdemain v1.0.0 now available

Author: Nathan D. Jerpe
Date: Aug 24, 2008 20:27

Good gravy, it's finally here!

The first complete release of Legerdemain is now available for download over
at http://roguelikefiction.com. Legerdemain is a hybrid offering of
interactive fiction and roguelike exploration set in the surreal fantasy
world of Phenomedom. There are dozens of areas to explore, hundreds of
original monsters to slay, and nearly two hundred citizens brimming with
lies and idle gossip.

When taken together, Legerdemain and its companion cluebook: Canticle of the
Onslaught, comprise over 250,000 words of prose. Since perfection is
achieved not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing
left to take away, you can rest assured that Legerdemain is about as
imperfect as a three-legged donkey.

There are also some puzzles, and a fair number of shrewd (lewd?) jokes. Mild
psychotic interludes and hallucinatory episodes are also featured.

A big thanks to the kind folks at r.g.r.m. and r.g.i.f. (also r.g.r.d. and
r.a.i.f.), who have been a constant source for guidance and inspiration over
the years. I've really learned a lot by hanging out at these two venues, and
I sincerely hope I'm able to give something back that is worthwhile.

For the longest time I thought I'd never get to write this post.
