If you don't feel like hearing another rant about eBay sellers then
delete this message now.
Still here? Good. There is currently a seller on eBay who is selling a
Williams driver board for Sys 3 -6. In his descriptions he states:
"The board is in very good condition, and at one point was working
but has been in storage for some time and has not been tested since."
Now I originally took that at face value, until I looked at the
picture. It is missing all 8 wire wound resistors, at least 2 of the
small pre-stage transistors and at least 2 of the power transistors in
the same area.
Now maybe I am still upset about the last eBay driver board from a
different vender. It looked good in the picture, if somewhat fuzzy.
This seller also said that they thought it came from a working game.
Working game, MY SHINEY METAL A** (to quote Futurama's Bender). It was
not only missing transistors and resistors, but the flipper relay had
been torn off of the board leaving most of the plastic base and
miscellaneous metal parts dangling. When I went back to the auction
picture, blew it up and squinted at it, I could almost see the
missing relay.

I was working on my Whirlwind tonight (my new never-ending project)
and it has some sort of odd issue that I haven't been able to locate.
When I turn it on, the game makes the "bong" noise and then sits there
for about maybe a minute, and then displays a message that says:
[garbage] failure
According to what I found on these boards, this has to do with a RAM
failure, but I have switched the MPU out and had the same problem. Is
the RAM that is failing potentially on another board?
Any other ideas to look at? The power supply is a Rottendog
replacement, so that should be good and I checked with the pictures on
IPDB to make sure all the wiring is in the right place. What am I
missing?

Well after a month long pin purchase frenzy, I landed five games with
the help of the Boston Pinball Association (BPA). --> GI (thanks
Mike), RFM (thanks Joe Kirby), WWF (thanks Ed C again), Shad0w (thanks
Mark S), and Strikes-n-Spares (thanks Gary). I had room for one more
and really wanted a Flintstones. Well Ed C from RI (who I have bought
tons of games from) knew someone looking to unload a Flintstones
(Rick), and we contacted via email. Rick always was prompt to answer
my questions, sent a ton of pictures inside and out of the pin, and
disclosed everything before I even asked. Problem was I wasn't going
to Allentown since I had so much luck finding pins here locally (and
gas prices stink). Long story short, Rick sold me the pin with
shipping at a great price (machine is super nice...

What's the chance of finding one of these? Williams part number
A-16113-1, or sub parts 21-6692-1, 21-6692-2, 01-11066 I was looking
at a project DH at A-town that needs a bunch of TLC including the
shooter handle. From what I can tell it doesn't look easy to locate
this. Anyone have a complete assembly?
Thanks,
Rick Pavelko

Background: I am new to repairing EMs. I have some electrical
experience and can read schematics.
I have the schematic and the book that goes with the machine (Got them
from Pinball Resource). I have been to the Marvin site and downloaded
and read the repair books.
I bought this machine about a year ago and it worked but it didn't
work right. I saw that the Advance unit wasn't working smoothly, so I
completely rebuilt it. It continues, however, not to step smoothly.
I replaced one of the bad coils in it, but I never could get it to
step smoothly. I know it is a problem and I would like to know what I
could do to try to fix it. I also replaced both pop bumpers, and
checked all of the contacts.
The machine trys to start-up when you turn it on, but, when the ball
is at "home", the score motor just keeps running. When I remove the
ball from "home", the score motor stops. Everything on the machine
lights up.
Can you please tell me what I should try to do next? Thank you very
much! tc
