I'm not sure if this is the right group, but rec.games.miniatures.misc
appears to be dead, with only posts about watches in it.
I have a web site; on this web site, there is a page
http://www.quadibloc.com/other/bo02.htm
which notes that if one likes movement in the directions of the points
of the compass, after squares (i.e. Tactics II) and hexes, one could
go to octagons - with little squares between them at the corners,
where orthogonal movement has a cost of 2, and diagonal movement a
cost of 3.
I had heard of _Saganami Island Tactical Simulator_ and then forgot
about it.
Inspired by the fact that there was 3-D chess in Star Trek, and Ploy
(the 3M Bookshelf Game) had a space/future type motif, on the page
http://www.quadibloc.com/other/bo0204.htm
I examine how one might orient spaceships on a 3-D chess board in
three dimensions. While Saganami Island Tactical Simulator uses
*hexes* and allows spaceships to be tilted in angles with 30 degree
increments... I'm only using squares, and angles which usually have 45
degree increments.
