You just don't get it. War IS the business. We've had the world's largest
nuclear deterrent on our side since WWII, there's been no need to spend
more money annually on our conventional military than the rest of the
world combined. It's lunacy. But it's lucrative lunacy, so it drives our
domestic and foreign policies.
Of course, when you admit that the Soviets didn't have the capability to
actually hurt us, you've essentially torpedoed your own point. Their
intentions were irrelevant if they didn't have the means to carry them
out, and our military-industrial complex realized that; and yet still,
they championed a massive build-up of arms and technology. It's all
bottom-line driven. Period.

That, of course, makes the asinine assumption that our true purpose in
Afghanistan is "resisting Islamicism," which is every bit as stupid and
naive as you claim that I am. Sometimes the war itself IS the business
interest. Think of Islam as the boogeyman that's used to convince us this
kind of permanent state of war is acceptable, even necessary. Terrorism
was a relatively non-existent threat to this country, even after 9/11
Christ, more people die from taking anti-inflammatory drugs EVERY SINGLE
YEAR than died at the WTC, and yet we've made this crusade the very
essence of our foreign policy, to the tune of trillions of dollars.
Because IT'S BUSINESS, and it's making business interests filthy fucking
rich.

I have no idea what you're trying to say here, and I can't fathom how any
of the administration's bullshit helps ANYONE, particularly the left.
Quite obviously subversion of civil rights and free markets were two of
the Administration's (unspoken) goals, and they've achieved them
swimmingly. Let's hope they don't have more in store.
