Rebuy Tourny... getting a weak hand to call on river

Author: tling
Date: Jul 27, 2006 23:59

In a 5 dollar rebuy tournament; I turned the nuts and called a sizable
bet... river i'm heads up with the bettor who took a rebuy at the beginning of
the tourny.  He bet small on the river and when deciding how much to raise, I
knew I wanted a call since I still had the nuts... he had
3370 remaining... instead of just raising small to get the call, I raised just
enough so that if he did the math, he'd know he could rebuy after calling (it
would leave him with 1480).  He ended up calling with 2 pair and took a rebuy.

Has anyone here had some experience with betting an amount that leaves the other
in a position to rebuy with almost full chips? does it usually work?  I dont
play rebuys much so I wanted to get a sense of whether this strategy is
something that's tried and true or whether maybe i just got lucky w/ this
opponent.

this is the hand:

PokerStars Game #5708555426: Tournament #28499359, $5+$0 Hold'em No Limit -
Level II (15/30) - 2006/07/28 - 02:46:20 (ET)
Table '28499359 7' 9-max Seat #9 is the button
Seat 1: PRUCRES (3760 in chips)...

Give me a break. I was satirizing the way Tonto speaks to the Lone Ranger.

You maybe right, Kimosabe.

Wow that still doesnt elicit the difference. "maybe" could be a modifier
of "right", rather than a verb, and there could be no explicit verb in the
sentence.

I have a linguistic explanation for everything, so don't bother trying to
trip me up with Grammar Nazi tricks.

Accusing him of a particular act of sexual deviancy is not mocking. It is
just lying.

Would I Have a Criminal Record?

Author: lawhonac

A friend (Debbie) who lives in Dallas sent me the following link:

http://www.reason.com/hitandrun/2006/07/weve_got_a_poke.shtml

to an article about an "underground" poker game in Dallas that was
raided by a police SWAT team. I sent Debbie the following response:

Debbie:

Thanks for the link. I've been warned by a highly reliable source with
contacts in the local (Huntsville, Alabama) police department that
something like this (i.e. a police raid) may be in the works here. I
wonder ... If a poker game I was participating in got "raided," would
I get fingerprinted, have my mug shot taken (like former congressman
Tom Delay) and have a (gulp!) criminal record?
