Powerball Lotto jackpot grows to $230 Million
3/8/2008 Powerball The jackpot in America's favorite lottery game continues to grow exciting players all across the country. Even though the grand prize was not awarded Saturday evening, 3 lucky tickets in New Mexico (1) and South Carolina (2) matched all 5 white numbers with the Power Play and won an incredible $400,000 cash each! Thirteen other winners matched all 5 white numbers for $200,000. These lucky Powerball tickets were purchased in Arizona (1), Colorado (1), DC (1), Iowa (1), Indiana (1), Louisiana (1), Missouri Powerball(1), North Carolina (1), New Hampshire (1), Oregon (1) and Pennsylvania Powerball(3). In addition, 1,265,395 tickets across the nation won a total of $11,141,042 in prizes.
Because no one correctly matched all six Powerball numbers in Saturday's drawing the Powerball jackpot will grow to an estimated $230 million!
The cash option for the Wednesday, March 12th drawing will be an estimated $113.6 million.
The numbers drawn Saturday night were 17, 29, 31, 34, 49 and the Powerball was 16. The Power Play multiplier was 2.
Other prizes won Saturday evening included seventy-one tickets that matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won $10,000.
A total of 180,148 winning Powerball tickets multiplied their prizes by 2 Saturday. Players were able to do that by purchasing the Power Play option for one dollar.
Players purchased $54,090,175 in Powerball and Power Play tickets between Thursday and Saturday night.

At the outset let me issue a warning. This analysis is based on white
PB numbers after sorting them in ascending order and not on the actual
order they were drawn. Also, only the last 112 draws were used because
ot limited computer skills.
The 55 white balls can be divided up into 5 equal ranges: 1-11, 12-22,
23-33, 34-44 and 45-55 with the means 6.17.28,39 and 5o resp. i.e with
a difference of 11 units. That made me ask what cumulative mean would
each of the five positions have?
Based on the last 112 draws the means are: 9.6, 18.7, 27.4, 37.1 and
46.6 and there were only small increases from these means during the
last 25 draws.
If somebody cares to somplete the same analysis for all 262 draws
please post the results here.
If R.Perkis thinks this kind of analysis has any merits feel free to
add it to your website.
I leave it to each ones imagination to make practical use of this type
of stats.

The Paddy Power website ( www.paddypower.com) now appears to accept bets
on the UK Lotto.
I haven't actually placed a UK bet with them, but the screens seem
subtly different to other lottos and clicking on certain facilities (eg
rules) brings up a pop-up window while closing the main window, so it
looks potentially buggy.
If anyone gives it a try, please let me know how you get on.

One is supposed to give credit where it is due, so I feel called upon
to mention that Todski the jerk at LP has finally corrected his stats
at USA Mega for PB, which preiously were based on data going back 562
games. I pointed out this absurdity some time ago.
