Spirit Mountain in Grand Ronde, Oregon just completed their fourth
expansion, and I checked it out Saturday.
The Cedar Plank buffet is bigger and fancier than the old one, but
there were many bugs and problems to iron out.
But some things never change, and the good craps crews (relatively
speaking: these are tribal joints, after all) were still in action.
Lots of banter and smiles, professional action, almost like being with
people you've known forever.
Wait a minute...it seems I probably HAVE known them forever.
Still and all, a good place to play.

Kentucky Derby winner Big Brown is the prohibitive 1-2 favorite for
Saturday's 133rd Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore,
MD. The colt will face 12 other three-year-olds in the $1 million, 1
3/16 mile race. Owned by IEAH Stables and Paul Pompa Jr., Big Brown is
undefeated in four career starts, having won the races by a total of
nearly 34 lengths. The three-year-old will again be ridden by Kent
Desormeaux and the pair will start from post seven. Desormeaux won the
1998 Preakness aboard Real Quiet.
Arkansas Derby champ Gayego is the only other Kentucky Derby horse to
be entered in the second leg of racing's Triple Crown.
A victory on Saturday would put Big Brown just one win, the Belmont
Stakes, away from...

Howdy, folks, howdy! Long time. I have been busy with my band, "The
Notorious Shank Brothers". However, last weekend my wife and I went
camping up at Clear Lake. On the way home via CA Hiway 16, we stopped
to pee and eat at the Cache Creek Casino. Naturally, I had to stop by
the craps table to see what was going on there.
As you may recall from my several posts about craps at Cache Creek,
they use two 36-card decks, shuffling one while the other is in use
for the "roll". They used to deal two cards, one into a blue square,
the other into a red square. The "shooter" tossed a blue die with just
2s and 3s and a red die with just 4s and 1s. Whichever die had the
higher number, the card in that colored square was turned over, giving
the dice result. Everything else is the same as dice craps.
On Sunday, I noticed that the dealer put both cards in the red square
and also placed a red plastic card on top of both cards. After the
dice were rolled, the dealer removed the red plastic card, pushed the
top card into the blue square and turned over whichever card was
"pointed to" by the higher-numbered die. After a few such rolls, I
confirmed that he always put the top card in the blue square. So, how
is this different from what they used to do?
I asked the boxman, a white-haired guy I recognized from previous
trips, "Why are you doing this differently now?" He said, "We've
always done it this way." I started to object, but he said, "Don't
argue...

I just got a mailer and invite from Harrah's for 2 nights at the former
Grand in Tunica. Seems they are going to plant their flag back in
Tunica.(they sold their joint to resorts, and rolled with Horseshoe,
Sheraton and the grand. Untill now) The hype was they had spent millions
in upgrades for the opening. I didn't make the A list. My offers start
in June. I may give it a shot. Only been there twice, when they first
opened. Nice place, but didn't have enough help. I hit a $1 slot just as
we came out of the buffet and waited 45 min. to be paid, not a waitress
in sight dureing the time. Their craps couldn't hold a light for the old
Harrah's, Horseshoe or Hollywood. Maybe it got better when they got
rolling. If they give me 2 nights, I have enought points left from the
boat,(I haven't been Since...
