Never had a problem with the smoke alarm going off whilst cooking.
You could have mentioned that in your case it was a code issue. Where I
live in NJ doesn't seem to care. Come to think of it, neither does my
insurance company. A lot of posters here get up in arms about insurance
coverage for a restaurant-style (i.e. high BTU output burners) stove in
the home. I asked them and they said no extra expense.
