They're vaccum bottles, just like a glass lined thermos is. There's
an outer shell, a vaccum layer (or air gap, depending on model), and
then the inner layer of stainless steel. They do a good job--
better than glass -- of maintaining the temperature of the contents.
Plus, they don't break.
