The economy is so stressed, I can't believe how many big businesses are
going out of business. I used to love Linens and Things years ago
before I had kids and watched prices. I purchased my French press
there and still use it to make my favorite Kona coffee. Even gourmet
shops are closing like there is no tomorrow and I can only find Kona
blends locally. Now I order from https://konaluna.com to get pure Kona
coffee delivered right to my door. I also wind up doing a lot of my
other shopping online now, including my linens. Found great sheets
recently at Overstock...

This is the third time that my refrgirator, a GE side by side model,
quit working while I was on vacation and gone for about one week.
After unplugging the thing, throwing away all the spoiled food,
cleaning it, and leaving its doors open for several hours and plugging
it again it began working. It has never broken down while I am at
home. Any ideas why this may be hyappening?

Yesterday (Staurday, 20 Sep 08), at a garage sale half a block from
home, I picked up a Circulon (now Classic) 10 omelet used but in very
good shape for 50 cents, and an 8 quart Circulon Covered Chef's Pan with
the polished high dome lid for $2, barely used and in fantastic shape.
Oh, and a nice little egg slicer to replace one that wore out recently
for only a dime.

For those who think they can't live without a microwave or chose not to use
one any longer, today I put mine out-of-site and out-of operation after
giving it a go for maybe 6 weeks' duration.
In that period of time, I 'trained' myself to use more often/readily the
stove top, or oven.
Drinking espresso means we don't use the microwave to reheat coffee.
Adding hot water to anything comes from the electric tea kettle which is
really fast.
If nothing else, the added counter space is nice.

Our Custom 14 FP has been a reliable workhorse for about 5 years. A
little over a year ago, the original metal blade developed cracks that
eventually caused it to lose grip on the shaft. I picked up a new
blade and away we went again. The shaft doesn't appear excessively
worn, and when you put the blade on and rock it back and forth quickly
there isn't a lot of excess slop to the fit; it feels pretty much like
it always has, I believe.
It has worked perfectly until a couple of months ago. Now, after
mixing up a batch of dough or something else where the bowl is fairly
full, it is literally impossible to remove the bowl up off the unit.
This is under normal mix time usage; no overheating going on here.
Now I have to unload it with a spoon or some such, until mostly empty,
and then if I pulse the blade a few times, it "lets go" and allows me
to remove the bowl. Even grabbing the blade's plastic collar and
pulling up will not get it off, nor will forcing the bowl up with
palms slid under each edge below. It almost seems that it becomes
slightly wedged onto the shaft, even though there doesn't appear to be
anywhere near the slop in the fit that I would think would be required
for this to be happening.
