I couldn't agree more, that baltic porter is Poland's brewing visting
card.

There are 8 breweries here in Poland that still brew baltic Porters,
~22*Plato - Cieszyn (Zywiec Porter), Jedrzejow (Strzelec Porter/Brok
Porter), Lodz (Lodzki Porter), Miloslaw - Fortuna (Komes Porter) some
brewers offer "lighter" variations ~18*Plato Witnica (BOSS Porter),
Naklo (Krajan Porter), Zdunska Wola

And Okocim Porter that is brewed only for export (since reintroduction
of this baltic porter Carlsberg seems to ignore local beer enthusiasts
and this Porter is NOT available here in Poland (sad but true) ).

Thread starter Henning Sinz mentioned Tyskie in the topic (but it's
also true for Zywiec, Okocim, ...) - if You like pale european
mainstream lagers, high gravity brewing, etc. it's quite ok. ;) if You
seek more than that, there are some breweries offering decent lagers.
Unfortunately most of their products are available only here in Poland,
so You probably won't even have an opportunity to sample them.

We surely have not still developed a "beer-culture" like the Czechs,
but hey, our "national drink" was vodka for decades, now we try to
catch up with our neighbours.

For most Polish beer drinkers here, the US beer market is still
identified with Bud and Miller only - so You can just imagine what they
think about American "beer-culture" ;) This is quite unfair of course,
just like what Saudades said about taking "some lessons from the Czechs
first". The Czechs brew excellent, distinctive lagers, I like them very
much (btw. I live near Czech border), but they brew just a limited
variety of styles - mostly pale and dark lagers...

Our breweries started experimenting with wheat beers (wit,
hefe-weizen), stouts and other styles. The specialty beer market is
still in its early stage in Poland so I i'm lokking forward how things
will develop.
