Just wanted to let everyone know what's going on before I disappear
completely for a while.....

Remember my cousin (who was more like my sister) Linda, who passed away last
November of stomach and lung cancer? Well, her son Liam never allowed
himself to grieve at all (in fact before she passed away he wouldn't allow
himself to believe it was happening either)... it all caught up to him a
couple of weeks ago when he came to the abrupt realization that he was all
alone in Toronto with no family near him at all. He started having major
panic attacks (as well as guilty feelings that he should have spent more
time with his mother before she passed away) on the Wednesday (hadn't slept
in days, and had barely eaten anything either), and by Saturday he was
finally able to contact a friend (who worked during the week and was
difficult to get in touch with) and let him know he was on the verge of
considering suicide. His friend contacted Linda's best friends and they all
went to sit with him until an ambulance came and took him to the hospital
where he was kept on the psychiatric ward under observation for a week.

Linda's best friend emailed me to let me know, at Liam's request, and
Matthew and I started making plans immediately to move Liam up here with us.
Yes, I know what you're all thinking... my doctor (also a friend of the
family) told me "You really don't need that kind of shit in your life, you
and Matthew have had enough to deal with yourselves with all the financial
burdens and stresses." But we just can't think of Liam being in Toronto
feeling all alone in the world, like no one cares about him... and very
likely having a complete nervous break down (he was on the verge when he
went to the hospital), and very possibly committing suicide. I also told
the doctor that Matthew was getting a bonus on his last day at the job he
had for siz months that he had wanted to use for us to go to Niagara Falls
(because we haven't been anywhere enjoyable for such a long time), but in
light of what's going on with Liam, instead he is going to put it into gas
to go get Liam and bring him back here. The doctor softened and said "Well
that's very nice of both of you to take him in and care for him like that."
He also said he would be happy to take Liam on as a new patient.

So... Liam is keeping busy this week packing what he's taking with him,
making arrangements for things he isn't taking with him to be donated to
charity at my suggestion, contacting people to let them know he's moving
(like his doctor and psychiatrist to forward his files to our family
doctor), vacuuming the apartment, etc. He called to talk last night and
told me that he is obligated to pay for the apartment until the end of
August, so whatever we don't take with us this time in my van, he will see
about renting a U-Haul to go back and get the rest that he wants before the
end of August.

Matthew decided (and I figured it out that we *can* manage it) to use his
bonus cheque for us to go to Niagara Falls on Saturday afterall, stay
overnight and then drive part way around Lake Ontario to Toronto on Sunday
to pick Liam up. Liam will be paying Matthew back for the gas from Toronto
to home, so that will be *some* money back. Oh, and Matthew has spoken to
the boss at the last job (its something called Skills Link that is run by
the government and the YMCA to help people who are having a difficult time
finding work.. but it only lasts 6 months) to link Liam up with a possible
job for six months starting in September. He told her the situation, and
she told Matthew to bring Liam out when he gets here to meet with her. We
actually took a drive yesterday and dropped off Liam's resume that he had
emailed to Matthew. She wasn't there, but he left it in her office for her.

In the meanwhile, Matthew is looking into possibly taking a college
Photography course. He has put the cabinetmaking on the back-burner for a
while, thanks to Ontario Works back-tracking and telling him the *didn't*
say they would pay for the courses for him, and thought he only had a couple
of courses left to complete the cabinetmaking program. That of course is
complete and utter BS, I was at the meeting and they were told it was a
three level program with five or six courses in each level and that Matthew
had only *completed* three of the courses in Level One. In fact the
caseworker sent him to the SEB (another branch of the government) to find
out if they could help him to start his business and when he was told (and
they emailed her and told her too) that they *could* help him if he finished
his training within three years... she (Ontario Works caseworker) suggested
that Matthew double up on the courses to make sure he could finish them all
within the three years, and she had no problem paying for the courses
because it was to work toward his own business. But now... "No, I didn't
say that. Ontario Works will NOT pay for college courses. I only paid for
the three that I did because I thought that was all you had left to
complete." I just LOVE government workers... NOT!!! In any case, Matthew
says he will do the courses when he can afford to pay for them himself
(can't get a student loan for those courses as they are night courses and
not *full* time).. so instead he is looking to take the photography course
(you can apply for a student loan for this one), as he has always been
interested in photography too.

So, come Sunday I will have two men in the household. Matthew (who is half
owner of the house anyway, so he has every right to live here) who will
hopefully be taking college courses starting in September, and Liam who will
very likely be working where Matthew had been working starting in September.
I have forms for Liam to fill out to apply for a low-income rental
apartment... has to get the form sent in as soon as possible because the
waiting list is vey long. Meanwhile I will be teaching him to cook... yeah,
me, who doesn't particularly enjoy cooking... because Linda didn't teach him
how. I told him that she didn't teach him because she enjoyed cooking... me
on the other hand, I don't enjoy it unless I'm in the mood to try something
new, so I taught Matthew to cook a few things... that way if I'm not in the
mood (or not up to it due to my fibromyalgia flaring up) Matthew can cook
supper. Oh yeah... Liam knows that I taught Matthew to drive over the past
year, so he asked me if I would teach him too... so once he gets his
beginners (G1) license, I guess I'll be teaching him how to drive too.

In any case, I'll be far too busy to be checking in here for quite some time
and I wanted to let you all know what was going on. Please send out good
vibes that everything will work out for ALL of us.

*hugs*
Gemini (never a dull moment in this household)
