  Hungarian/Csango beadwork references?

Author: Jack Campin - bogus address
Date: Aug 19, 2008 08:38

Marion and I were just in Hungary and Romania for two folk music/dance
camps - I posted a long report to rec.travel.europe and uk.music.folk
which I will not repeat here. Both camps involved local folk crafts,
and Marion got fascinated by the kind of beadwork done by the Csango
Hungarians of Moldavia. The teacher of the class was using what seemed
to be a few xeroxed pages from an ethnographic monograph as her only
outside-her-head reference. We tried to find more at the bookshop in
the (wonderful) ethnography museum in Budapest, but while they had some
work in the Csango style for sale, they didn't have any books about it.
The other Budapest bookshops were utterly unhelpful about both this and
every other aspect of folk culture we wanted to know about (to the point
that there are still...

  Spoons for spoon rings

Author: Shirley Shone
Date: Aug 17, 2008 01:44

I have just put up on my web site pictures of some of the condiment
spoons I got at antique fairs. I got them when I was sending spoons to
members of this group for Shirley's Spoon Club.
Some of them would make nice spoon rings.

They are in my Antique finds page.
Hugs

My computer crashed a few days ago. So I'm writing this from my
husband's computer via Google. Maybe it will get me accustomed to
using Google and I'll use it while I'm gone South.

Art Deco Egyptian Revival Brooch

Now put three marbles in your mouth and say
that seven times while drinking a glass of
water and juggling three bejeweled ensembles.

Which brings us quite logically to 1924 Paris
and the house of Van Cleef & Arpels.

I digress. In the early 1920's Carter and Carnevon
made great archaeological discovers ... not the
least of which was the tomb of Tutankhamen. This
... as I'm sure you all know ... inspired the
jewelers of the day to create pieces whose motifs
were gleaned from an Egyptian archaeological past.

looks like a great buy for jewelry photos

Author: Sterling
Date: Aug 14, 2008 18:01

I was following a link someone posted in rec.crafts.jewelry ng and found a site selling table top
photo "cubes" for photographing jewelry - at a way better price than I'd seen else where.

http://www.nilecorp.com/products.asp?sku=OS-012B

$55.00 to $57.00 is a much better price than say...... $300.00.

I know that some of you guys are having a difficult time with photographing your jewelry. I am
too....... and I have been saving to buy ez cube light tent that costs much more and didn't come
with anything other than the tent. The one above includes the 20 x 20 x 20 Light tent, four
backdrops, an aluminum ultra-light weight Tripod, two 50-watt Lights, and a Carrying Case... all
that for $57.00 plus s/h? You cant beat it with a stick!

So, I'm passing on this great buy! With this set up, we might all become professional jewelry
photographers.

  Bead and Button - Loominosity

Author: Rachel Grier

I am completely taken with the Loominosity project in Bead and Button. Has
anyone bought the lantern frame? Did you have any problems and are you
happy with the frame?

I am thinking seriously about buying the frame - it was love at first sight
with the design but would like to know if there are any pitfalls involved.

Thanks in advance.
