  Relief or Skeleton cancellers.

Author: rodney

From
http://www.sahistory.org.za/franco/postal-history-errors-varities.html
The single circle relief canceller has been a feature of the southern
African postal service since at least 1898 (Frescura, 1984) when the first
such instruments were issued to a small number of post offices in the Cape
Colony. Their function was to replace, on a temporary basis, those
cancellers which had been returned by post masters to stores for repairs and
maintenance. It is doubtful that they were ever intended to serve as
permanent office cancellers in their own right although some are known to
have remained in use for as long as nine years. In spite of the fact that
Cape reliefs were larger and generally better finished than their
counterparts elsewhere in the country, issued from about 1902 onwards...

Would welcome any gossip on the
political stamp (rhs)
(why would the eagle only have one head?)

The lhs has been looted from post office stocks.

As Sir Rien recently posted, there are indeed "Deeter Doters" and
others who have formed the background of the resistance when
rec.collecting.stamps split into .discuss and .marketplace ...

Quite some time has passed since the split. We lost both rabble and
the knowledgeable, for various reasons I need not repeat here. I
regret to some extent the loss of some of participants, but some of
the more radical I miss not one iota.

Out of the ashes of the split rose up who you see here and a few
others who have decided to stop posting - but still may be lurking
around.

There are some folks who still keep the Deeter torch lit and well
maintained. Amongst those, I add our Edmonton psycho and a few others
who perform Los Angeles, South Central "drive bys" to try to get a
rise out of us.

Although these may appear to be common trolls, they are in fact long
term trolls bent on restoring the republic. Don't take my word for
it, simply Google the war period for yourself.

Hi Rodney,

Believe it or not it is a cancel and not an overprint.

If you need anything else let me know.

Is Greg Deeter's 'philatelic.com" Maillist Down? BUG to Fix?

Have been trying to post to Greg's superb maillist for past few days.

Instead of getting posted, get stupid error messages, claiming I posted to a
test site.

I have been wondering where Rodney gets all his strange stamps. The
only thing that I could come up with is that he is a stamp store
Dumpster Diver. :-)
Second thought was that wackos like me send him their "What the 'ell
is this" stamps.

  Will it sell?

To quote PT Barnum, "There is a sucker born every minute and one to
take them." I think here is a case of the taker:

Would any one in their right mind pay $46 USD for this "philatelic
item"? I think not. No real true stamp collector would.
