Old news?

I can wholeheartedly recommend ordering philatelic literature from Vera
Trinder in London (http://www.vtrinder.co.uk/) while living in the United
States. While it did take 17 days to arrive, by airmail, and the
exchange rate caused massive damage to my bank account, the contents were
packaged very professionally, almost, dare I say, lovingly.

I am quite pleased with my purchase, despite the fact that the flaws on
the wraps of certain volumes of one set, while expressed clearly on the
paper wrapping it, were not expressed on the website. The flaws are,
however, nearly negligible.

One surprise: I was quoted a rate of 23 GBP if mailed with a meter strip,
and 31 GBP if mailed with stamps! They cited a contract -- presumably
with Royal Mail -- that gave them such discounts. Is this common? It
is, in my view, *horrible*. What *are* Royal Mail doing to
philatelists? My mouth was watering at the thought of recovering 23 GBP
(face) of GB stamps to offset postage costs, but I could not imagine
being able to recover the enormous difference between these services.

He was a plate finisher. His initials would be added to the
bottom right of the bottom right of any stamp plate that he
had worked on.
