My Panasonics have survived two years outdoors in a saltwater
environment.

I've had Panasonic BB-HCM371A wireless network cameras on my boat and
dock for several years. They can be accesed by any web browser over
either a direct or wifi ethernet connection. It has tilt, swivel and
digital zoom but does require a source of 110 volt AC power, as do the
other Panasonic network cameras.

Hurricane Ike Boat insurance claim tips?

Author: GSS
Date: Sep 20, 2008 18:49

Does anyone have any tips or experience they could share on how to
deal with insurance adjusters for significant boat insurance claims?
My boat was one of many badly damaged in Hurricane Ike...I'm guessing
$50k+ in damage (boat is worth about a $100k). Flybridge was
crushed,
radar, Loran, radio & gps antennas, flybridge enclosure, T-top, and
outriggers/center rigger all trashed. bow pulpit yanked off too &
Port Engine engine won't start, plus the whole dock box gone and
everything in it.

The damage was extensive & I was really surprised she stayed afloat,
but it doesn't appear the boat would be totaled...my policy is a
declared value policy, for what I paid for the boat as opposed to a
replacement value policy. Please respond to the group & thanks in
advance.

  Let's get rid of NMEA

Author: Poit

I would like to see the community come up with an open standard that would
kill off NMEA. It could stay purely ascii, be bi-directional, easy to use,
no binary mumbo-jumbo. It could be extensible like XML. Best of all it
would be free for everyone including manufacturers.

In a word, yes. They are very nice when working properly but glitchy
and unreliable in my experience.

All you really need is a decent digital voltmeter. Under light to
moderate load the batteries need to be recharged when they drop below
11.8 volts. That's about 60%% of full charge. Anything lower will
begin to damage the batteries.

  antenna alternatives for isolated stays?

Author: McGuffin
Date: Sep 12, 2008 14:56

hi
don't want to use my rig as antenna for my SSB transceiver
a long whip antenna is not very practical on an ocean going sailboat
(40ft)

Heard about the split-lead antenna. Any comments?
Will the stainless steel stay not absorb too much transmitting energy?
Would a well isolated long wire attached to the backstay not be equally
good?
thanks
