I love Montana (moved there in '89), but I wouldn't choose to
manufacture anything other than dimensioned lumber or what might be
distributed via internet there, unless I was insane... or overly
optimistic.
Nobody lives in Montana because there's no manufacturing in Montana
because Montana is so far away from everywhere.

Getting from point A to Point B to see stuff and so things is what I
want. If all you wish to do is go to and from the grocery store that
is your choice.

Embry Riddle flight department devastated by tornado
School looking for replacement aircraft to lease
While most EAA members were celebrating the Christmas
holiday on Monday,
the staff at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona
Beach,
Fla., was dealing with the aftermath of a tornado that
ripped through
the campus that day. More than 50 ERAU aircraft were
destroyed or
damaged by the tornado, while nine campus buildings were
also hit. The
damage caused university officials to delay the start of
classes for one
week following the holiday recess, with the spring semester
now starting
on Jan. 16.

I don't think he "saved it" really. He just bottomed out too low and the
mush gave him just enough room to clear.
He would have known instinctively how much back pressure he had left and
couldn't have gone past that anyway.
Once you have all the g in there that the airplane's recovery profile can
give you, you're totally committed to the recovery line that amount of g
provides. Feed in more and you're topping off the CL curve and you're done
for when that happens. If anything, he had all the stick in there the line
was giving him and just sweated out the exit .
Ground effect won't save you going through a bad recovery line. The impetus
will take you right through it into ground contact. He maxed out the line
and went tail low with just enough air under him to clear the prop tips. Had...

Use KLDJ
Linden. MUCH MUCH cheaper, only landing fee no service, ramp, parking,
shake-your-hand fees.
Cab ride to train station is $6 then 25 mins to Penn Station by NJ Transit.

Insurability for 210s seems to be harder to come by than for comparable
Pipers (Saratoga/Lance). I had a conversation with an agent when I was
looking for a Navajo policy who told me some companies just won't
insure that type due to its loss rate. No further details were given.
I'm not that familiar with the 210, but how much different can it be
from a 182RG as far as systems go? Is it just a case of owners trying
to squeeze more utility out of the plane because of its performance and
push the WX envelope a little too often?
I find it interesting that removing the back seats made such a
difference; I guess the ins co. sees it as limiting their total risk?
The local flight school here rents a nice Seneca 1 with the back seats
also removed.

If that's the price we must pay to save all of our GA infrastructure,
yes.
I would like to think that there's a happy medium here somewhere, but
given the choice between no GA, and lots of GA, I'll take the risk with
a pattern that's full, thank you.
