They call me "Grunt" and "Crunchy"
They call me "Grunt" and "Crunchy"
and I guess I've earned the names,
cause I've grunted past the LDs
and the phase lines marked in flames.
And I've crunched a lot of gravel
on the backroads of the world...

Don t Speak For Me
By John Salcedo
I am a soldier.
I am not a poet.
I wish I could afford to buy
A $10-dollar word.
But, I am a soldier not a poet.
So, this will have to do...
Why do you criticize me?!?
I am just like you.
I bleed and breathe just like you.
A soldier is neutral in politics.
I follow orders.
I don t question the mission.
If you need a Guardian Angel -
The task is mine.

Flags a Flyin'...
Flags a flyin
in a Memorial Day Breeze
All these people died
so others might be free
A Daddy of mine
I never met
But through that longing
I ll never forget
He gave his life
for this country of mine
A flag and photos
are the ties that bind
I have no memories
of him at all
Before my birth
he got God s call

Empty Boots
There they stand
All muddy, covered with grime.
They once were polished;
Like the man.
The bloodstains all blackened
With time.
Proudly they marched
In every parade.
They slogged in the mire
Of war s long charade.
Now they are empty.
The owner is gone
To that heavenly place
Where brave soldiers belong.
