He is the exception, tho.
There's a few guys who kept their edge for a long time - Gant and
Bobby Allison most notably, and Martin seems to fall in that group.
But most drivers, even included some of the most successful, seem
to have declined markedly when they get to that 48-49 point. Richard
Petty and Darryl Waltrip being the most high-profile examples.
