Were God to intervene to help someone win, it follows that He is also
intervening to someone else's detriment at the same time. The only
exception I can think of would be for Him to step in and protect
someone from injury or death. That would be helping someone without
hurting anyone else.

So, I tend to think that God leaves the outcome of the races--and all
sporting events for that matter--to the participants.

Good thing, however, that God doesn't tally up prayers like votes and cause
the outcome of the race to come out according to who got the most prayers;
life would be very boring with Junior winning every race :)
