The only thing not ugly about it is that it works. :o(

Kurt must be pretty wound up about now, I'd think.

It seems to me that he hasn't really been a contender
of late.

He's 22nd in the standings. That's a long way behind
his younger brother.

Less snakebit, but not a win.....

Obviously not. By a lot.

Half right: wasn't Biff. Guess the crystal ball picked up Carl's problems,
but not his ability to overcome them.

For once, I shouldn't have shot at multiple bases: Kurt was top, just not a
win.

  Value for the Sponsorship dollar

Well, you think there's a few big name companies that aren't jealous
of Lafayette Ford today? That was a really really impressive run by
Travis Kvapil. Looks like a year out of the big leagues has really
helped his focus, and I guess he & Todd Parrott have "clicked" as a
driver/crew chief team.

(Respectable run by Gilliland, too. Looks like the reports of doom
for Yates were a bit overstated - notwithstanding young drivers and
hit-or-miss sponsorship, they're turning in a right respectable
performance so far, 18th & 21st in points)

Also give a shout to Dave Blaney, who looked like a real contender
all night until fading to 9th at the very end. He's in the T35 now,
despite missing a race, and I think will stay there.

  Simmons - RPG - Darlington 08 - 1/19

Author: Mike Simmons
Date: May 11, 2008 04:33

In looking at my previous RPG selections I've
noted that KyBu has figgered in my top five on most every race, but this
time I think he won't be there.

Yup! At least I was wrong with conviction! I was amazed the KyBu's car
held up to the punishment he doled out to it... he's an amazing kid...

Top Five (in no particular order)

Biffle - 0
Earnhardt - 1 Jr saved me agin'
Johnson - 0
Stewart - 0
Busch, Ku - 0

The winner...... The Biffster (sorry, Pig, I'd like KuBu too but the crystal
sez Biff)

The crystal wuz humbled too....

The mods received this in e-mail from Megan (listpig). I don't
know why it came to us as e-mail instead of as a post
for approval:

Hmm. I haven't turned on the tv yet today, but I'm grooving on my first
year living where I can *hear* Pole Day out my window.....

I'm going to go with Marco Andretti on this one, although I'd actually
prefer Castroneves or Briscoe, to go along with my general Penske
loyalty...:)

--pig, hoping John Andretti manages to land an Indy ride.....

RPG The Lady in Black I TomS

Author: Tom S.
Date: May 10, 2008 09:06

The lady in black started selecting her courtiers early in the first
practice and several drivers will be starting in backup cars as a
result. Including Jimmie Johnson who managed to also wreck - slightly
- in his backup car. During the Nationwide race, I noticed that by
lap 50 there were 11 cars in the garage and there had only been one
wreck - a one car spin by Cousin Carl on lap 2. He smacked the wall
on lap 1 and cut down a tire the next lap. I don't think the Cup race
will be as bad but it should still be interesting.

Now, on to the picks.

Winner: Dale Earnhardt, Jr.

1. Michael Waltrip spent much of practice and qualifying (I think)
"brushing" the wall. He continues this practice in the race, but
still pulls out a top 20 finish.

2. Bill Elliot drove the Wood Brothers #21 into the 20th place
qualifying spot. In a moral victory for him and them, he cards a top
10 finish.

3. Patrick Carpentier has qualified on speed for every race he has
attempted this year. He improves on his 43rd starting position to
finish in the top 20.

  RPG - Darlington - McCoy

Author: John McCoy
Date: May 10, 2008 08:49

Well, I RPG'd after the tire test that the race would be single
file racing with little passing, periodically interrupted by
crashes. I'm still not super optimistic, but after watching
a bit of the Nationwide race I have some hope...

The Win: I don't have a good idea on this one, so I'll stick
with my recent theme and predict Greg Biffle to win from the
Pole.

1) top Toyota - I'm thinking Rowdy Busch will bounce it off the
wall at some point, so I'll go with Tony Stewart as top Toy.

2) top Chevy - Jeff Gordon starts to make up for what's been a
pretty slow season for him with the best finish amoung the
Chevrolets (which will probably be a T5, but I'm gonna avoid
compound picks this week).

3) top Dodge - I'll go out on a limb here and pick Kasey Kahne,
starting from dead last. He was pretty fast before discovering
that his line was several feet outside the speedway, I think
he'll be fast again.

  Darlington NWS race

Author: Mike Simmons
Date: May 10, 2008 03:22

I watched the NWS race at Darlington last night and thought it was a good
one. I musta missed something tho'...... KyBu crashed out and during the
post-crash interview he was whining that another driver (Keselowski?) didn't
show him any respect and came down on him. I haven't replayed it yet, but I
really didn't see anything untoward. Did KyBu really get taken out or is he
just whining 'cause the LIB whupped him?

The Lady in Black is back and it doesn't look like new asphalt has done
anything to temper her fury. In looking at my previous RPG selections I've
noted that KyBu has figgered in my top five on most every race, but this
time I think he won't be there. I'm going with "experienced hands" this
week as I think the LIB will eat up the younger/aggressive drivers,
so.........

Top Five (in no particular order)

Biffle
Earnhardt
Johnson
Stewart
Busch, Ku

The winner...... The Biffster (sorry, Pig, I'd like KuBu too but the crystal
sez Biff)

Let the games begin...
