I've seen mention a few times of how Hamilton carved his way through the
GP2 field from deep in the order. Which races were those? I did not
follow GP2 extensively that year so I missed it, but I want to see if I can
obtain the races in question.
Thanks.

I'm sure it was Turkey 2006

If you have some time to spare download the complete season from "the torrent
site" and watch the races... you'll see why many of us think that Hamilton is
something special.

I agree. In other words Hamilton has done nothing special in Formula
1. It is interesting that there are no races in 2007 you could point
to where Hamilton has driven impressively enough to say why he is
'something special'. His race credentials are based in GP2 where he
belongs.
Arguably against the worlds best drivers he needs to be in the fastest
car in the field to win. Perhaps this was the case in GP2 as well.

He *hasn't*?
I mean, I'm no Ron Dennis fan .. and I don't care for the lad's father,
Yoko, either.
But wouldn't you say that winning pole in Oz and disappearing from the
field, just VANISHING, with nobody giving him a bit of
competition--wouldn't you think that's something of an accomplishment?

Are you talking about this year? There is nothing special about
winning from pole. The drivers all say how easy it is to race in clear
air in the fastest car. Coming from the back of the field and fighting
your way up the field against the odds to take the win is something
special. That is something I have yet to see Hamilton accomplish in an
F1 car.
We will never see hamilton be able to accomplish that because he is
just not capable in Formula 1.

To a few of the people in here, when that's done in a McLaren it's
"easy" and "nothing special", but when it's done in a Ferrari it's
"masterful"..

Except that he managed to outdrive Alonso in the same team in many
races, despite Alonso's vastly greater experience in F1. Not to mention
that he did do some impressive overtaking maneuvers in F1 last year.

hmm, not really. What you are not taking into consideration is that
Hamilton had a slightly better car.
I will put it in layman's terms, so that you can understand.
Suppose there are two crank shafts, one for each of the 2007 mclarens.
They are not identical by any means. Both have been machined and
balanced to within very low tolerances but despite that there is still
a marginal difference between the two. The difference is so small it
would be impossible to get them both exactly to the specification
required. It is measurable to identify which of these is closer to the
ideal but neither are perfect. Hamilton's car would always have the
finest crankshaft and alonso the second. The same would apply to every
other part on the car.
So Hamilton would always have the best car, and Alonso the second.
Despite that Alonso still scored as many points as Hamilton. In other
words had Mclaren favoured Alonso instead of Hamilton then Mclaren
would have had the driver's world championship last year.
