I'm stilled bummed out about this track getting axed, but maybe this will
help it get back on the F1 schedule. Hey Bernie, how about adding another
race to the year and put both Fuji and Suzuka on the calendar!

That would on the Sunday of the upcoming 2007 season opener race weekend,
AFAIK. Don't have a web browser or having trouble finding the FIA website?

There's a Linux\Ubuntu story that I ran across a long time ago that
goes like this:
There are two guys sharing a dorm room at some University, one is a
geek one is not. The geek is, to some extent, a Linux proselytiser and
sets up their communal computer to boot randomly into Linux or into
Windows. The geek figures, if faced with Linux even an idiot could learn
to embrace it - if not love it.
Weeks go by. The non-geek says not a word about the computer having a
mind of its own about which operating system it boots. The geek
concludes he's converted his non-geek roomate to Linux, at least partially.

Well, thanks to you guys, I've been playing with various flavours of
Ubuntu this weekend, all within the Parallels virtualisation environment
on the Mac.
First impressions :
- What took me so long? This OS is great! All three variants installed
easily and worked perfectly. Wifi networking, USB recognition, wireless
printer too (although I think Parallels is mainly responsible for that).
Nothing geeky at all. It's every bit as easy to install as any other OS,
even OS X.
- the systems boot up very quickly and are generally very snappy.
Noticeably quicker than XP, and are easily fast enough, even within the
virtualisation environment.
- None of them will work in greater than 1024x768 within Parallels, even
after having mucked around with xorg.conf or reconfigured dpkg on the
xserver. This is a known Parallels thing, and it shouldn't be a problem
on my real PC. Hopefully...
- Of the three (Ubuntu, Kubuntu, and Xubuntu) I settled on Ubuntu. It's
got by far the nicest interface IMO. Simple, well thought through and
easy to navigate. I like the three main menus. Clean, legible.

Very nice , indeed!
Flash apps are great for the web and are _very_ transparent across
browsers -- not to mention different flavors of operating systems.

Alonso is F1's fastest driver - enquiry
Fernando Alonso is the fastest driver in the current F1 field and the eighth
quickest of all time, according to a survey.
As reported by the Spanish publication 'As', the British specialist magazine F1
Racing staged an enquiry to find the sport's fastest fifty racers.
As well as asking experts including Max Mosley, Jean Todt, Keke Rosberg and
Eddie Jordan, the magazine compared drivers' statistics relating to their
teammates in F1.
It was found that 67 per cent of the time, back to back champion Alonso - the
youngest driver on the top-50 list - outpaced his teammate.
Ayrton Senna topped the magazine's findings, with Michael Schumacher in second
place. Alongside Alonso, only four other current drivers got a mention: Kimi
Raikkonen (13th), Jarno Trulli (42nd), Mark Webber (43rd) and Jenson Button
(49th).
Alonso also placed higher than names including Gilles Villeneuve (11th), Alain
Prost (14th) and Niki Lauda (18th), but behind Juan Manuel Fangio (6th) and Mika
Hakkinen (7th).

Yeah, it has become my regular test destination this year.
Out of interest what speeds do you get ?
We are being throttled to death down here and my best is ~7MB, on a
supposedly 10MB/256KB cable.
Not surprisingly, our Telco was told by a number of industry high
fliers, that we need to up our bandwidth as we are falling behind and
becomign a bottle neck. Nods, agreements and cheering all around,
which neatly covered up the sound of the proposals being swept under
the carpet.

I don't see why i couldn't. It's more a matter of would i ? See below.
:)
However, i was not talking about a tipping page where odds betting
would be involved.
More like a simple one, where you just submit tips for each race.
The scorer of most correct tips on the end of the year would win
satisfaction and a virtual gold star. :) If a pot of money is added,
then so be it, but that was not my initial idea at the time and it may
require a permit of sorts. Not sure.
It is still on the cards, but whether it happens, is up to the amount
of free time i get until March.
