  Re: bent frame ?

Washed the salt off it ( I was looking like a powdered doughnut) took it to
a friends autobody place (inside and heated)

Found that the part of the frame that arches over the rear axle is buckled
at the 'top' or the arc (actually on the bottom of it but at the highest
point)..... this is good and would explain why there is no weird
vibration.... better still I was quoted 2 cases of beer and a Saturday
sometime during the next month to have it fixed!! He has a frame puller! He
said he could stretch it out to limo size if needed. :-/

Also noticed that the rubber frame isolators show signs of stress/
movement - so it appears that things did shift a bit. Might be a good time
to replace all of these and square things back up - anyone replace the body
mount cushions? Tough job? Special tools? Or just go at it one connection
point at a time?

thanks
paul

  2008 jeep wrangler

Author: Lynn McGuire

I am thinking about ordering a 2008 jeep wrangler X/S.
I have the following questions:
1. manual transmission or auto ? (leaning manual)
2. 3.2 or 3.73 rear axle ?
3. I am planning on getting the soft top. Half doors or
full doors ?
4. Or should I get both tops ? That hard top looks
very heavy. The soft top is surprisingly quiet compared
to the hard top (plus I hear that the hard top leaks).

I wish I could get a diesel motor like in Europe. That
would be too cool ! I am in Texas and plan on using the
Jeep as a convertible.

Thanks,
Lynn

Review: Installing Rough Country 4" Xtreme lift kit

Author: Kate
Date: Jan 31, 2008 07:57

Let me begin by saying %%$#!*&^%%$#!!!!!!!!!!!

As a whole I cannot compare this kit with any other. I have not ever
installed another lift kit. "Back in the day" my jeeps were already lifted
and my old Chevy just needed blocks.

We drove up about a week ago and picked it up.
Nice facility and the guys there really knew their stuff.
With some recommendations and information, home we went with what looked to
be a fun project...
I was so excited I was nearly ready to piddle on the floor.

This has turned out to be a real learning experience.

Since my hubby's back has been 'out' for about 6 weeks, we knew it would be
slow going since I don't have the muscles to really yank on really tough
bolts. But he was willing to give it a try and he's been doing a great job.
I've been right in there with him cracking knuckles and swearing like the
best of them. It's been a LONG time since I've worked on a vehicle. Damn,
gettin old sucks. We do have good tools, pneumatics and damn near everything
a person could ask for up there.

The clearer video form http://youtube.com/watch?v=1sRhoLe2cNY mentions
265 HP, fuel injected and big bad rims, really standing tall, but NOTHING
ABOUT SLICKS, and of course everyone but stupid people would know there
are NO "cheater slicks" until about the '65 model year when the 78 red line series ratio came
out!!!!!!!!!

  Re: Ticking sound

You could easily be describing an exhaust manifold leak. They can make
ticking noises when under load at first.

You can take a piece of hose or an automotive stethoscope held to your
ear to maybe track that down.

Any popping noises when you decelerate in gear?
