Guages all dead - '98 XJ

Author:
Date: Jul 27, 2008 11:12

Yesrerday, during a local drive, The speedo, tach., ammeter, water
temp. guage, oil pressure guage, and the fuel guage all flat-lined.
The odometer and dask lights still work.

I have gone through the fuse block and the box of relays & fuses under
the hood and all are OK. I've read online (at the NAXJA site) that
often it is that connector(s) at the back of the instrument cluster
have probably become corroded. While some said that this was one-hour
fix, it looks as though much of the dash may need to be removed in
order to get the cluster free.

Has anyone had experience with this issue? Tips, tricks, please?
Thanks.

Jim

put headlights on, I get no tail light, no brake light, and no signal light.

Re: Locking Gas Cap - no key

Back in the day....
locking gas caps were kind of universal. If the key fit into the lock, it
could be convinced to open it relatively easily.

I'd almost bet that if you put the new key in there and wiggled it a little
(kind of in and out) that it will open.

So I had spare keys made for my Jeep but never thought to get one made for
the gas cap. Long and depressing story cut short, my keys are sitting at the
bottom of an elevator shaft and can't be reached until around Aug 5-6. My
Jeep is sitting at a 1/4 tank - in other words, I have about 20km of driving
left ;p

Anywho, any way of filling the tank up? I see screws around the cap and
around the door - can the whole piece just be removed in any way? Can I fill
it by detaching a fuel line hose?

Argh!

I think you'll find that most full service gas attendants have no
problem popping your "locked" gas cap off without the key!

An important issue to consider is projection. EVERYONE who has one of these
deals will tell you that you have it too. Just talking to a crazy person
can make you crazy too. That's why psychiatrists have to go to school
longer than just about anybody.

Maybe this will help, but I doubt it.

I have immunity. That is why I can read this stuff without harm. I do not
recommend that others attempt it.

Saludos cordiales,

Earle
