Friday night I subbed with the Hollywood Bowl Symphony (2nd 'bone). It
was neat to play with Julie Andrews, a true legend. Fine orchestra, fun
concert, but the Bowl is a TERRIBLE place to play IRT players hearing
each other. Yuck. But it was fun, great to meet Ms. Andrews, nice to
play outdoors on a beautiful summer evening, the Bowl has all that
historic vibe, and the check will clear!
Saturday morning was a wonderful guitar lesson with the great Laurence
Juber, and Saturday night was dinner and a concert with just about the
most musically sensitive steel-string player you'll ever hear, Ed
Gerhard.
In between stuff on Saturday, I again visited the site where my cousin
was murdered by the Manson kooks, and left 6 roses at the gate. People
do that often, I hear; I wonder if the present residents get tired of
it. Then I did the L.A. music store thing. So much less to see than in
the past, sad to say. There is exactly ONE sheet music store left for
my needs (luckily, it's a great one), TWO really good stereo stores, ONE
good CD and LP store, and ONE great LP place. And that's LA, for crying
out loud. The times they sure have a'changed.
