LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - In terms of Nielsen-topping ratings
longevity, Fox's "American Idol" has nothing on CBS' "The Young & the
Restless."
While the industry continues to marvel at the ability of "Idol" to
dominate primetime in its seventh season, CBS' veteran soap just won
its 1,000th consecutive week in the daytime ratings.
Put another way: "Young" has won every single week since 1988, when
primetime offerings included "Growing Pains," "Moonlighting" and
"Alf." And "Young" already was 16 years old when its streak started.
"Reaching the milestones of 1,000 weeks at No. 1 and 35 years on the
air simultaneously is unheard of in this industry, it is a testament
to the work of an extraordinary team of storytellers both in front of
and behind the cameras," said Barbara Bloom, senior vp daytime
programs at CBS.
