This totally sucks. Procter & Gamble has confirmed
that two-time Emmy winner Martha Byrne will soon
exit As the World Turns. Other websites are
reporting that the fan fave â who plays Lily
Snyder â nixed an insulting offer to re-sign her
contract. Not so, claims the soapâs executive
producer Chris Goutman. âWe made Martha an
incredibly generous offer in hopes that she would
remain a valuable member of the ATWT cast,â
Goutman says in a statement. âUnfortunately,
Martha has decided to leave despite our best
efforts to keep her.â
Those close to the situation swear thatâs no
baloney. âWhen Goutman says âgenerous,â he means
it â the offer was generous by anyoneâs
standards,â insists one longtime staffer. âI donât
know what else the show could have done for Martha.â

Is it just me or am I getting some bad vibes off of Adam? He seems to
be trying to undercut/sabotage Victoria, for instance (and Victoria
isn't helping herself here). He is either a genuine workaholic or a
genuine suckup. His "slip of the tongue" today (Friday) about Nick
using his trust fund to help launch the magazine didn't appear to be
accidental. And his "Aw, shucks" attitude just *screams*
watch-out-people-I-ain't-what-I-seem.
Or at least I hope so. I *love* convoluted plotlines :-)

I've been swamped at work and meant to post this remark about
Tuesday's epi then:
Victor's comment to Nick when he castigated him about borrowing
against his trust fund and referencing Noah: "I hope he deals with you
in a nicer way than you deal with me."
And this was just before he told Eric Forrester not to touch "Restless
Style" with a barge pole.

I know Newman's is a family owned company and Victor is a
(situationally) indulgent father, but Victoria setting up a
mini-nursery in her office is a bad idea on more than one level. I
hesitate to say, "It's not professional," but I'm going to anyway.
It's not. And it places something of a burden on her co-workers. She's
shushing people who come into her office on business; does she have
her telephone ringer turned off and instructed her secretary to warn
her colleagues to be Baby Sensitive when they enter her office? And by
having Reed at the office, instead of at home with his (presumably)
competent nanny, the germ exposure multiplies hugely.
Besides that, AFAICS, this is also an issue that Adam could exploit if
he's of a mind to try to be the only Newman sibling left standing at
Newman.
And are we seeing (from Friday's epi, at any rate) an increasingly
neurotic Victoria as she obsesses over Reed? And, yeah, she has every
right to be obsessive over the baby, given his rocky start in life,
but I'll betcha we're seeing some foreshadowing of a Victoria/Reed arc
of some sort that will involve, I dunno, maybe post partum depression?
Something like that?

In response to Sharon and Jack's comments about the weather in SoCal
being such an improvement over the weather in Wisconsin, Ashley said,
"That's LA for you. That's how it always is." I wish. This was pretty
hilarious to me, as for the last *month* we've been freezing our butts
off in SoCal (relatively speaking) as either the temperature never got
above 70°F (and was usually a LOT colder at night and early morning)
or we had freakishly cold Santa Anas. The only people going to the
beach the last month or so were the wingnut surfers.

Okay, besides the lame name, why does a magazine need really fancy
digs before it launches? AFAICS, they could launch their IRL and
virtual magazine from the Abbott mansion's basement without making the
quality of the magazine suffer. Quite the reverse: having more money
to launch the magazine from the Abbott basement would tweak the
quality upward, you ask me, as they would be able to hire better
talent, sets, designers, etc. Just sayin'.

I think Eric William Morris (Matt O'Connor) is the best new cast
addition to ATWT in a long, long tim
--I'm immediately impressed with
his acting, giving some interesting shadings to a character who seems
to be a "bad boy who still has a heart"--and his chemistry with Marnie
Schulenburg's Alison is wonderful. Do we have any knowledge of his
contract status? I'm hoping and praying that TPTB will recognize what
a great find they have here and sign him to a long-term contract.

I agree: and, I think back to when he first joined the show, and I love
how he has grown in the role. He has matured so much, and his acting
has improved a lot.
I like how he and Amber play together....
I think they're a great couple, now that he's lost all the 'bed hair',
or whatever they're calling it these days.
He reminds me of Nick when he first started on the show.

Word has it that the new Lily may be Emmy winner Susan Haskell (ex-
Marty of OLTL).
