So there has been this steady drumbeat that OLTL, under Ron Carlivati,
represents the nadir of what soap can be. Critics, soap boards...and of
course the STEADY love shown by Nelson Branco :-).
I have been skeptical, because most years I have been disappointed by
OLTL. In the 80s when I was watching regularly, I always thought it was
the weakest of the "big three" on ABC.
But I must confess I have been tuning in this past week, and I find it
riveting. Funny, bitchy, compelling...with big secrets on the cusp of
reveal...the thing that makes you tune in tomorrow.
I post this as an "all" thread because one consensus across many threads
here is that the writing on soaps is often not good. So, I think it
helps if we point to writing that IS good.
Is OLTL at the top of its game? Is this what daytime should be?
