Manos Versus Troll 2: Electric Boogaloo

The Onion AV Club features both Manos and Troll 2 in its
'The New Cult Canon' feature this week:

http://www.avclub.com/content/feature/the_new_cult_canon_manos_the

The question: which is more unspeakably awful, and how is that
possible?

... the FAQ you just posted could do with a couple of updates. One I
noticed is that it says the MST3K:TM DVD is out of print. Another is
that it says that the new Eddie Murphy movie has the wrong title (it
should be "Meet Dave").

"Meet Dave" got a pretty good review here on "The Movie Show", btw.
They particularly praised the script and Murphy's performance.

I don't think anyone else has mentioned this, but the Film Crew:
Hollywood After Dark is now available for free viewing on hulu.com.

I haven't seen it yet - is it any good?

Kate
hoping they'll add Killers from Space soon!

So, what're you doing for Brain Day?

The inimitable Sampo reports that on 14 July 1989 Minesota
got the papers to incorporate Best Brains, Inc, and I can't help but
think they were happy in Saint Paul when it finally happened.

Me, I'm looking forward to taking in the fire safety
demonstration.

April Carter "Darya Gunchenko Photo Shoot Video - Released

Author: Borked Pseudo Mailed
Date: Jul 11, 2008 18:33

The avi clip in DashaG.zip shows "April Carter" (Darya Gunchenko)
wearing a sexy black outfit while ease indian stripper Rajni Parmar
snaps away. "April "Darya Gunchenko is on a black and white blanket at
76 Corby.

Forget the questions in your mind. Look at the video of how the photo
shoot went that day. Don't you see who took the pictures and what the
two girls said to each other as they snapped away?

This is important because in a fabricated video statement to Peel
police April Carter (Darya Gunchenko) claims the black computer expert
on trial took sexual pictures of her and video released to the
internet, you can see clearly Rajni Parmar directing a happy Darya
Gunchenko to smile and to move her hands as Rajni Parmar takes the
photos.

  Boxset angst?

Two more weeks until we cross the ComiCon, and finally get our
fan-convention announcement of which episodes will show up on the Shout
Factory "20th Anniversary" DVD box...

But given that we've already got the unhelpful box art
http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Mystery-Science-Theater-3000-20th-Anniversary/1...
(cool, tins!), it's started speculation about exactly WHICH titles would
contitute a 20th Anniversary--

There was a brief blip of mis-data on Shout's site falsely speculating
on "Laserblast" and "Werewolf" (for an anniversary set? 0_o?? ), which
they later retracted.
Still can't help theorizing: Judging by the fact that they were at
least *talking* about Laserblast, is it possible we'll get at least some
mix and matching of "Crawling Eye", "Laserblast" and/or "Diabolik" as
some Alpha-to-Omega explanation of the show's beginning and ending canon?

Derek Janssen (also says they're working on a second one for "early next
year"...A set, that is, not an anniversary)

  OT: book

books? about movies? what's next, movies about books?

well this is interesting, a big book Keep Watching The Skies,
by Bill Warren:

http://www.amazon.com/Watching-American-Science-Mcfarland-Classics/dp/0786404795/

has lots of info about 1950-1962 sci-fi movies. Science Fiction?
how could something be both science and fiction? Isn't science
true? up to date of 1982-6. something to show your grand kids
how we old folks used to live in our black and white world.

http://www.amazon.com/Mystery-Science-Theater-Amazing-Colossal/dp/0553377833/

this is the amazing colossal episode guide for mystery science
theater 3000, but that isn't relevant here either. that is a
book about a TV show about movies. books are passe. Now if
only it came out as ringtones instead of boring stuff you have
to read.

apologies for this post, this does not pertain to this group.
this is a newsgroup, not a movie or a book.

  Doomsday Machine

I watched this little gem over the weekend. An indication of how bad it
was--it was made in 1967 but not released (escaped?!) until 1972. The final
scene with two of the actors (Mala Powers and Bobby Van) were obviously done
with stand-ins because the voice was different and they kept their space
suits and helmets on. It looked as though it was abandoned midway through
filming, someone picked up the pieces 5 years later and tried to finish it
without a story or any of the actors. (Kind of like "They Saved Hitler's
Brain".)

I wish they had released "The Wasp Woman" instead

Sorry for the interruption of service there. It was really
unavoidable, and not just because I was in Cleveland. I was also in
Henrietta, New York, and yet that stopped me just as thoroughly.
I'm sure you sort of understand.

TOM: Screw the Revolution! Ruuuuuuuuuuun!
CROW: There was a lot of milling around in the Revolutionary War.
MIKE: For Castleton!
> ``Look, there goes Robertson!''

TOM: Avant and quit my sight, young executive!
> ``Oh, If he makes it to his transport this is all for nothing.''
> ``Excuse me, general.''

CROW: I'm a leftenant! -- Oh! Ow! What are you --
MIKE: General Dung Beetle.
TOM: I think they oversold the weather at Valley Forge.
It's a little chilly is all.
CROW: Trevor threw wet leaves on the fire.
TOM: They got big plastic things holding their feet together.

  Saw "Doomsday Machine"

Author: Dr. Zontar

Hey folks, Rich Johnson here. Anybody remember me and Judy from the
old ratm days?

I just wanted to drop by to say we just got our copy of Cinematic
Titanic's "The Doomsday Machine". We loved it. The riffing in the
first half hour is amazing. It slows a little as the movie plods on.
But there are still some gems later on, like Mary Jo's observation -
"This movie has more padding than a Tyler Perry character".

The movie itself goes from amusingly silly at the beginning to pretty
dark. It reminded me a lot of "Rocketship XM" in that respect. But
it's done so ineptly that it's not a downer. And the riffing is mostly
first-rate. They even stop the movie a couple of times to do something
similar to host segments.

I can't wait for the next one.

- Rich
