  YASID sending criminals to hell

Author: SteveB
Date: Jul 20, 2008 21:48

I'm looking for (I believe) a short story that had as a central theme
the concept that criminals were sent to hell. Hell was the state of
Mississippi. There was an impenetrable wall around the whole state, and
anyone who was convicted of anything was put over the wall to live out
the rest of his life.

  YASID Frog People?

Author: james

Okay, I'm trying to find out the title of a fantasy (or possibly science
fiction) novel, probably published during the Nineties, set in a vaguely
medieval world, in which a young couple who are both archeologists travel
around to various countries, one of which is inhabited by frog-people. If
this sounds familiar to any of you, I'd appreciate any leads.

One handed fantasy revenge story title/author needed

Author: pigstaub

Heroic fantasy paperback book from the late sixties or very early
seventies. Cover has a muscular warrior with a large spike studded
morning star where his right hand should be (possibly Jeff Jones or
Frazetta artwork) Okay here goes, a kingdom overthrown by evil baron.
The king is slain and the baron has had the 9-10 year old heir to the
thrones right/sword hand cut off to discourage him from coming back
later to retake the throne by force. The old king’s loyal court mage
spirits the prince away from the castle to a place of safety. Using
powerful ,dark magic the sorcerer sends the one handed boy into
another dimension/hell whatever. In this land warriors from all times
past battle endlessly (like the Norse heaven Valhalla). Time passes
much more quickly there and in just a short while in...

YASID short story with overly adapted alien daughter

Author: William December Starr

Forwarding a request that was emailed to MITSFS:

I'm trying to identify a science fiction short story I read in the
late 60s or early 70s (it could have been published earlier). It's
about a woman who realizes, too late, that her father was an alien...

Missing Volume 6 Girl Genius Page

Author: Quadibloc

I was re-reading my printed copies of the GG TPB for volumes 1 through
6 - and am eagerly awaiting the opportunity to buy volume 7 locally,
as the Post Office charges $5 for charging GST on imported items -
when I noticed a page I didn't remember seeing.

Checking, I find that between

http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php?date=20060424

and

http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php?date=20060426

there's an extra page in volume 6 - containing the memorable line,
"Thought I was the cat here".

  Dreamtime story?

Author: Robert
Date: Jul 19, 2008 23:16

Does anyone remember this short SF story? I think I read it around
1970 or so, maybe a bit later.

A man is sailing through outer space between the stars. He sits in a
little one-man open boat, sailing through the dreamtime. Above him, a
gigantic gossamer sail cathes the slight pressure of light from
distant stars, propelling him along.

His people have developed a molecular air-sheath that envelops him, so
he needs no space suit, and can go without clothes or protection.
Through countless years of exposure to the ultraviolet and gamma
radiation, his skin has turned black. He sails on in total silence,
himself quiet like the void...

  Schild's ladder

Author: Jan Irigi Olsina
Date: Jul 19, 2008 19:15

Have you someone read Schild's ladder from Greg Egan? I haven't
finished yet, but I want to ask you something: how did this 'Slowdown'
work? I mean, whole planet was waiting for anyone who'd traveled until
he got back. People changed their perception of the world so it didn't
look strange to them, but how did they managed not to starve to death
or not to get old in meantime? Were some unsentient robots fedeng
them? (I probably just missed it, it had to be explained there.)

Thank you!

Irigi.
