Alturas films , did a large Sprint - Mikel Mann Superbowl commercial
and there are stories of outstanding $ not forthcoming to vendors
after 6 months. L+D from insurance Co. has not been paid after 6
months. Alturas is ducking their responsibility. Get deposit money and
equipment pay in advance!

HSI is a comedy of course. if you get paid in 120 days your are lucky.
Most folks now get credit card advance money.

I am sure the list is endless.

Personally I do not take jobs anymore when people start haggling. Its
an indication of lack of ethics. If they haggle before the job they
have no compunction to pay after.

The people who get stuck most with no payment seem to be the lower end
of the scale

Hollywood has always been a magnet for charlatans, thieves, and scam
artists, but its getting ridiculous.. There are not just a few bad
apples - I am looking for the few good companies left.

Ok I've got a couple pairs of Ultrasones and I'm trying to decide if I like
them. The 750s seem to be a little more "cardboard-y" to me; a certain lack of
presence and just not very inviting to my ear. The 650s have much better low-end
response and seem more "real" to me. I know it's been hashed over here before
but I was wondering what people thought of the two relative to each other.

OK, you know when the coiled cable in the booms gets to where it will
not let the boom completely collapse? Over the years I have usually
just had this "fix itself" with some twisting and push/pulling, but my
new Avalon has been giving me fits for a week. It is not really
interfering so much with the work, but it is driving me mad that I
can't get the pole to collapse fully......OK I'm a bit anal, whatever.

Should I try to undo the bottom xlr connector and pull the cable out
to straighten it? Any other magic tricks for this?

Anybody have experience with both the B5D hollow foam teardrop and the
B20 basket pop screen on an MK41 and can tell me if one of these two
color the sound less?

The B5 solid foam teardrop was for a long time my every-time pop
protection for stationary interior placements, but lately I've been
using the MK41 bare when possible and the sound is noticeably better
without a screen... until the interviewee launches a puff of air
upwards.

I imagine either of the B5D or B20 will be an improvement on the B5. I
just don't feel like paying for both to do my own comparison. So...
any opinions?
