Here's something I've always wondered? I started doing ENG work much
later in my career... coming from the film world i got use to work
field boards such as (in order) the cheap Mackies, the cool Audio
Developments, and finally the great Coopers...
Nowadays, i find myself on the field more often than i thought i'd
ever be either running and mixing up to 6 radios to 3 cameras, or
comfortably sitting on a stool doing split tracks feeds on boring
interviews...
My main issue on ENG gigs: We often run into situations where we have
to deal with levels going all over our VU meters on shows where people
will scream, then whisper, then cry, whisper, scream again, etc...
making it so difficult to bring all faders down in a context where
all talents are close and feeding off each other lavs. A guy
screaming most likely would mess up his track and all the tracks of
the other amigos next to him)...
WHY IN THE WORLD SUCH WONDERFUL PEOPLE AT SOUND DEVICES OR PSC DON'T
INCORPORATE MASTER FADERS in their beautiful and extremely versatile
mixers such as the 442 or the Alphamix?
It, sometimes, makes me want to go back to my old master fader capable
PSC M4 and fotget all about my direct outs but instead send left/right ...
