Field Mixer designs: Issue # 1

Author: goodkarmaproductions

Here's something I've always wondered? I started doing ENG work much
later in my career... coming from the film world i got use to work
field boards such as (in order) the cheap Mackies, the cool Audio
Developments, and finally the great Coopers...
Nowadays, i find myself on the field more often than i thought i'd
ever be either running and mixing up to 6 radios to 3 cameras, or
comfortably sitting on a stool doing split tracks feeds on boring
interviews...
My main issue on ENG gigs: We often run into situations where we have
to deal with levels going all over our VU meters on shows where people
will scream, then whisper, then cry, whisper, scream again, etc...
making it so difficult to bring all faders down in a context where
all talents are close and feeding off each other lavs. A guy
screaming most likely would mess up his track and all the tracks of
the other amigos next to him)...
WHY IN THE WORLD SUCH WONDERFUL PEOPLE AT SOUND DEVICES OR PSC DON'T
INCORPORATE MASTER FADERS in their beautiful and extremely versatile
mixers such as the 442 or the Alphamix?
It, sometimes, makes me want to go back to my old master fader capable
PSC M4 and fotget all about my direct outs but instead send left/right ...

Hello all,

I'm thinking of buying an expensive (used) piece of equipment from a
sound mixer in Florida but I've never heard of her. Her name is
Jessica Tortorici
Hollywood, FL 33021
Does anyone know this person and can anyone tell me anything about
her experience or anything at all positive about her?

Looking for sound recordist for a show who is also willing to appear on that show playing a sound person.

Author: stefanspringman

I know this is an insane request, but here goes:

We are currently gearing up to shoot a docu-series for a major cable
network. The show is mostly about our subject, but it also shines a
light on how these shows are made. It's kind of meta (think reality
version of The Larry Sanders Show) and the cameras will be
periodically turned on the crew.

We're looking for a highly competent sound person to record sound
double system with a SD 744T. But we'd also like for the sound person
to be willing (and even enthusiastic) about appearing on camera as a
sound person. You can play yourself and say whatever you want
(preferably something funny) as you go about your duties. Your first
priority will be recording the sound, but you can always pipe up about
how you feel about what's going on with the show.

We want you to be a vivid personality (and we know that there's no
shortage of vivid sound recordists) and up for expressing yourself.
Your character can be jolly or angry, enthusiastic or curmudgeonly,
but mainly it should be genuine.

  lav power supplies

Author: Andy

I have a pile of Lectro-like 2-wire pigtailed mic capsules that I
would like to use as hard-wire lavs for those jobs when you just can't
get enough lavs. Anybody have thoughts on power supplies for these? I
would like to just solder these pigtails into something, without
spending much money on the project...
