Is Daken short for Turducken? Imaginet that. Wolverine loves his son so
much that he named him after his favorite dish.

Unreachable Star Reviews September 17th, 2008 (SPOILERS)

Author: Peter Dimitriadis
Date: Sep 17, 2008 15:29

This is our 273rd edition. Two books this week. After a quick
flip-through in the store, I decided to drop Young X-Men. They
didn't seem to have any X-Factor at my store, so that made my
decision for me.

This week we have...

Captain Britain and MI13 #5 - 3.25 Stars
Uncanny X-Men #502 - 3 Stars

Unreachable Star Reviews September 10th, 2008 (SPOILERS)

This is our 272nd edition. Two books this week. The maybes from
last week turned out to be reprints of earlier stories rather than
new material, so obviously they went into the new category. Also,
since I'm running a little late, reviews will be short.

This week we have...

NYX: No Way Home #2 (of 6) - 3.25 Stars
Secret Invasion: Runaways/Young Avengers #3 (of 3) - 3.25 Stars

  Magneto's Holocaust Past: A Trivialization?

Author: angmc43
Date: Sep 10, 2008 13:04

Chris Claremont’s revelation that Magneto was an Auschwitz survivor
wasn’t comic book’s first depiction of the Final Solution, but with
MAUS it stands as the most well-known. Now X-MEN: MAGNETO- TESTAMENT
is giving us the first-detailed account of the origin of Magneto. In
view of this, it’s time for a question that probably has never been
discussed. No, it’s not the drifting timeline problem. Rather, it’s a
more meaningful query: DOES MAGNETO'S ORIGIN TRIVIALIZE THE HOLOCAUST?
Does the origin give respect and dignity to the horrible event? Or
does the comic-book-costumed-supervillain-trappings cheapen it?
I’m reminded by how Elie Weisel frowned upon the TV mini-series
HOLOCAUST, calling it a cheap soap opera. Other critics have detracted
Holocaust movies because they feel that the event should not depicted,
as displaying it will lessen its powerful message. I’ve never read any
critiques on Magneto’s origin, besides the drifting timeline.
Personally, I never had a problem. In a way, the X-Men comic actually
helped in my learning of the Holocaust. X-MEN is a series about racial
equality vs. racial supremacy. Therefore, it is important that the
series have some tie to the Holocaust, as a reminder to what the X-Men
must oppose and overcome. It also made Magneto more than a 'Bwhahaha'
villain. As for the 'not to be described' criticism, Magneto’s ...

FAQ: Ads and Auctions on the Comics Newsgroups
Adapted from the REC.ARTS.COMICS/REC.ARTS.COMICS.MISC FAQ
Version 1.1--June 6, 2002

By Carl Henderson
Updated by Karl Hiller
Based on original FAQs by Francis Uy, Tom Galloway, Paul Estin, et al.

1: WHERE CAN I POST ADS, AUCTION ANNOUNCEMENTS, OR WANT-TO-BUY NOTICES IN THE
REC.ARTS.COMICS.HIERARCHY?

The only place for such posts is in rec.arts.comics.marketplace.
RAC.marketplace is a newsgroup created for the purpose of for buying and
selling comics and comic-related items.

In other words, RAC.marketplace is where your customers are. If you want to
reach them; post there. However, ads posted to other RAC newsgroups can only
serve to annoy potential customers--and you probably don't want to do that.

All other RAC newsgroups are discussion-only groups; "for sale," "want to
buy," and "for auction" posts are off-topic in those groups--and most likely
a violation of your ISP's subscriber agreement.

2: WHAT ARE SOME POTENTIAL CONSEQUENCES OF NOT FOLLOWING THESE POSTING RULES?
