Well, folks, the survey is half-way through its usenet phase,
and as usual I'm posting an interim report.

There have been 38 returns so far. That's quite a bit more than
last year at this point, actually, more than all of the Usenet-based
returns last year, and a bit surprising to me (happy surprise).
If you want to participate and haven't yet, try the above link
(or search back to around the Wednesday the 12th for the text
version that was posted here).

Last year I added comment and "other" boxes, and those worked
well enough that I added a few more "other" boxes. The new
features this year are one visible one and one hopefully no
one sees. Whereever there is a "skip to" that a user checks ON,
the form hides the questions in between the current question
and the skip point. I hope this is working to most people's
satisfaction. It can't be too bad because no one commented
on it. The other is the temporary storage of form inputs in
cookies, just in case there's a crash or the need to recover
from a failed submission. It eats up a bit of CPU but I'm
hoping the added security outweighs that. Either way, I hope
no one notices or needs it. But let me know if it's too screwy
to use again.

As usual, I'm going to hold off reporting any results from the
survey itself until the end (in 3 weeks). I will be posting
a second notice right away, and one more interim report here
next week marking the end of the usenet phase and the beginning
of the web phase of this survey. That doesn't mean you can't
do the questionnaire, it just means I won't be pushing the
survey at you guys after that. Anyway, that'll be when I ask
folks to spread the word on their favourite anime web site.
