To follow up, there are at least five more movies on Jerry Beck's
http://www.cartoonresearch.com list that for some reason are NOT on the Oscar
list:
Doogal
Blood Tea and Red String
Captain Sabertooth
Hair High
Romeo & Juliet: Sealed with a Kiss
Anyone here know why they wound up left out?

Isn't it odd how much CGI animation is flying about at the moment, most of
which can be mixed and matched so that you'd never know the difference
between them?

Seen clips, not impressed. It looks too much like an animated "Honey I
Shrunk the Kids", and a little too plastic at that.

Don't think I've seen either of these. The website for Arthur is a lossy
Flash-only site that also requires ActiveX, and I'm not inclined to go
load up IE on my PC just to please them (hey, guys! Flash is *not* a web
design tool!) I just wish Besson would stop mucking about and make
something worthy of his talent (The Fifth Element was fantastic but, since
then, what?)

Unfortunately, the English sonypictures site does not have a preview. The
Japanese site does:

Sonypictures seems to do a bit better with Internet Explorer, although I
had no trouble with Foxfire. The movie, as you can see by the thumbnails,
is in the middle left column. If this is the first time using the
sonypictures site, it will require you to select a player and the quality.
You can also see a different trailer on You Tube. It doesn't give as good
impression as to the qualities of the visuals, not because of You Tube but
because of the scenes in the clip itself.

I posted a link to a review right after it was shown at the NY Film
Festival. I see it's still there. The reviewer was not that impressed.
On the other hand, I was not impressed by the reviewer who provided many
adjectives and not much analysis.

Ghost in the Shell: S.A.C. Solid State Society is also absent. Maybe it
doesn't qualify because it was made for TV and shown in Japan back in
September and is due out on DVD end of this month. However, it is
theatrical quality and head and shoulders above some of the movies on the
list.

The reviewer talks about how his four and nine year old nieces walked out
of "Barnyard." My four year old niece walked out of "Chicken Little."
However, she sat all the way through the more innovative "Charlie and the
Chocolate Factory." She likes animated films - she's watched "Little
Mermaid" countless times glued to the screen. However, when they start to
have a mass produced feel she loses interest very quickly.

Strike one more victim who
A) didn't know "Doogal" was a cheap Weinstein-ized import ("Why did they
make it?"...They DIDN'T),
and
B) didn't know "Flushed Away"'s Aardman pedigree, and put it in the same
sentence as "Barnyard".
