Toss enough random things into a single memory bank, and you start to
encounter unexpected coincidences. Music cues can be especially
evocative.
"Challenge of the Super Friends" is (c)1978 by Hanna-Barbera. The
credited music editors are Sam Horta, Joe Sandusky, and Robert Talboy.
"Battle of the Planets" was also 1978, and was adapted by Sandy Frank
Productions from "Science Ninja Team Gatchaman" (1972). One of the
changes was a new opening theme song, replacing the vocals of a
Japanese children's choir -- I'm trying to remember if the new theme
was based on one of the original cues. It's been over a year since
I've watched an ep.
The four-second clip of the BotP theme -- the fanfare, specifically --
appears in the episode "The Time Trap," time reference 8m09s to 8m13s
in that episode's chapter of the DVD, just as Captain Cold and
Sinestro lure Green Lantern and Samurai to Camelot, 500 AD. That ep
is available as "Challenge of the Superfriends [sic]: Attack of the
Legion of Doom" (Warner Bros. Home Video) in Netflix's catalog.
Anyone aware of this previously being reported?
(If you're wondering, I'm slowly working my way through TV shows I
haven't seen in 25 years. By the Matrix, the writing of CotSF was
awful.)
