Animation Comes of Age:

Interesting letter from South Carolina to the Roger Ebert web site,
citing Persepolis (not playing within a 500-mile radius of SC),
Miyazaki, and Grave of the Fireflies.

And because some overambitious fanboy made Roger Ebert sit through
"Grave of the Fireflies", Ebert now makes US sit through it. >_<
Hence the annoyed anime-fan referring to grim, humorless and/or
pointlessly inscrutable Sony theatrical anime imports (with no remote
knowledge of any TV anime on DVD) as "the Ebert List".

Oh, the emergency-room spin-doctoring we *real* fans had to do after
"Paprika"...It was like "Metropolis", all over again. :/

Derek Janssen (and let's not even get into the "Persepolis is sorta like
anime 'cuz it's SERIOUS!" fans...At ALL.)

Pipe down, hater :-)

I have read several exit polls from Joe Average GotF viewer over the
years, and you're STILL the only one who hates it. After a while, it
seems less like Ebert pressuring audiences to sit through it and more
like curious moviewatchers being genuinely moved by it.

This isn't Haggis' Crash or anything, where the howls of discontent
from average filmgoers at least made for a vocal minority.

At least we're lucky that "Death Note" is the first newbie-recommendable
series to air on CN since Bebop...And that was what, seven years ago?

You completely missed FMA and _Samurai Champloo_, then?
