Tony Kornheiser (of ESPN's Pardon the Interruption) is putting his
Sirius/FM radio show on hiatus again to return to his Monday Night
Football gig. As part of his weekly segment on New Film Releases, he
left animation fans a going away present:
http://icestream.bonnint.net/dc/3wt/tony/TK_PODCAST_20080429.mp3
(I don't have my hreadphones with me, so I can't give you the exact
timestamp yet. It's at least 17 minutes into the show, however, when
Film Critic Joe Barber appears to review Wall-E.)
Parphrasing for now, he complains that the Oscar category for Best
Animated Film was the "worst thing to happen to cinema". He kvetched
about about forced to watch Lion King and Little Mermaid with his
children dozens of times ("They couldn't grow up fast enough."). and
so on. I'll pull out the quotes, soon as I can, cuz their going right
on the bathroom wall :-)
We love you anyway, grandpa!
Terrence Briggs, not asking for an "e-mail jihad", as his fans will
know.
Peace to you...

There is, at the moment, so much momentum over Wall-E initially getting
100%% on RT (it's down to the 97's now, thanks to two or three
"depressing" party-poopers) that...yep...you guessed it...LA voters are
currently asking whether it could also be nominated for Best Picture
"for the first time since Beauty&Beast", unquote. -_-
By creating the Oscar category, we thought we had finally found the
vaccine to the Disease.
But as long as LA will always be LA, you just can't teach a Sneetch.
Derek Janssen (there's GOT to be some way we can finally stop them)

Anyone with kids know that watching a cartoon means [1] watching it
from the middle, then almost at the front then a bit towards the end,
then some other place in the film, then the song, then repeat the song
then repeat from [1].
I can fully understand his position.

Kelly Ripa pulls the same crap. I saw her rail on about 'animation' and
why there were even awards for it at all and who cares about 'animation'
spitting the word out each time.
A better question is, who cares about a has been soap actress and talk
show sidekick? At least animation requires talent.

The Oscar category for animated films was created so they wouldn't even have
to nominate an animated film for Best Picture or tie up the Best Song
category with music from animated films. It's not a matter of whether an
animated film is good enough to win Best Picture, it's a matter of whether
the Oscars want to give the Best Picture to an animated film.
