This book was about a bear who went to sleep for the winter. When he
woke up in the spring a factory had been built over his den. No one in
the factory will believe he is a bear. They all say he is a guy...

Okay, I finally got to see it. For a second, it looks like Tashlin, and
then it all turns into 60s Jones, with a la-la-la theme song.
I prefer the book:

I also saw the humorless Czech version of it, which is just pathetic.
The original, which I loved as a kid, is still one of my favorite books,
impeccably drawn, designed, and timed.
Dover has reissued it, which makes me think it's not in copyright. Go
buy a copy and read it to your kids.
(And thanks for posting the YouTube link! I've wanted to see that
cartoon for years.)

Trouble is, here's what one reader said:
"I regret that, by reducing the format, Dover has lessened the impact
of the illustrations; which kept me enthralled for hours."

True, the old book was bigger. Tashlin's clean art reproduces well at
the lower size, and it seems better to have a smaller copy than no copy.
Can't beat the price
-- just a couple of bucks. My flickr set uses a
first edition from 1946.
