DEATHNOTE - I finally saw it!

Author: Terrence Briggs

... Well, I saw the first four episodes, anyway. Subbed first, then
dubbed, on DVD. A few quickies:

The dub has a few of the usual "hiccups" (rushed line reads, extra
words where terseness is usually more effective, etc.) but is
otherwise pretty solid.

The sub gets a case of the blabs early on. Probably because this is a
logic-based series where rules and processes have to be explained
(constantly) for the audience to understand what's going on.

This reminds me of some show... which reminds me of some play...
which reminds me... Have any of you guys seen Profit? See that, too!
NOW! On DVD! (That means you too, Juan! Don't wait for some
hypothetical Trio channel re-airing on Brilliant but Cancelled!) And
Richard III sounds about right, thought it's been at least a decade
since I read/skimmed/saw-a-Siskel-and-Ebert-review-of-an-Ian-McKellan-
WWII-transposition-about it.

Terrence Briggs, noticably less impressed with the Hellsing: Ultimate
DVD he rented. Guess the manga sucks too
Peace to you...

My first association was "The Talented Mr. Ripley"
(Which also explains why I never wondered why Light didn't seem to have
a thing for Misa, but that may not have been intentional)...

There is absolutely no point to seeing Hellsing Ultimate unless you've read
the manga. It's a completely shite anime on its own, much worse than the
Gonzo anime. It's just basically a big Easter Egg of cool scenes from the
manga strung together with no plot.

Light doesn't have a 'thing" for Misa because he's a sociopath who
only cares about his own wants and needs. Other people are just
things for him to use and/or get rid of.

Well, my impression was that it certainly didn't help that she's a giant
airhead who pretty much flung herself at him without knowing anything
about him. Light only seems to have respect (even if grudging) for folks
who can actually use their brains for things other than breathing
through their mouths, and who can actually provide a challenge for him.
Misa was neither, and pretty much the opposite of both as far as I could
tell.

Ah, the exception to Kissinger's rule that 'Power is the ultimate
aphrodisiac'. (though it seems to work just fine on her side)

It's currently running on that channel called Chiller.

As for "Death Note", feh

MAJOR SPOILER WARNINGS

At first, the show is a tense standoff between two evenly matched
geniuses. I found the show entrancing during those early eps. But then they
threw in Misa, and the show jumped the shark. Since then the show has
redirected its focus on far less interesting characters, from the, ah, less
than genius Misa, to a cliched evil-corporation(tm). With a third of the show
left to go, they then eliminated one of the two key characters, replacing him
with far less interesting adversaries.

Right now, "Death Note" is like the 2008 Primary season: I just want it
to be over. :-P

Why, because the overbearingly psycho world-domination female character
who barged her way into the show just won't leave? :-P

1. So, Terry: I'm glad you've finally seen and commented on "Death
Note". However, after reading your post, I stul have one question: Did
you *like* it?

2a. Everyone, please remember that Terry has seen only the FIRST FOUR
EPISODES. Therefore, any talk of Misa, or any event beyond those early
episodes, qualifies as a spoiler in this thread.

2b. However, as long as Pandora's box has already been opened: Juan, I
have to disagree with you here. I'm still enjoying the series, even
after all the changes.
