(And for the anime fans on the thread, I still say director "Shinichiro
Watanabe" is the same as director Shinichi Watanabe, aka "Nabeshin", of
Excel Saga and The Wallflower, and the "Mushroom Samba" episode is the
connection...
Check "them" out on IMDb, and you won't see filmographies overlap.) :)

Er, Tekonkinkreet didn't get released until this year. So how could
"Cowboy Bebop" be a defence against that? :-)
And I never would've thought of "Metropolis" as dreary. Not with Osamu
Tezuka's very cartoony character design style. I'm starting to think of
Tezuka's cartoons not as animes but as 30's era Disney and Fleischer cartoons
instead. By taking that attitude, for instance, I find I'm greatly enjoying
the "Astro Boy" episodes Cartoon Network is showing on Saturday nights. That
show's weird sight gags and playful tone make a lot more sense then.

Yes, after "Paranoia Agent." ;-)
