I am Argentine, and I was not offended by it.
It's all in how you interpret it, and I actually thought it was kind
of "ridiculously funny". I am almost certain, or at least I sure hope,
that the Simpsons scriptwriters purposely/deliberately chose to make a
mockery of the ignorance some people have of world history. In its
irony, I thought it was kind of amusing. Especially the part about
Peron "being married to Madonna"!
It makes fun of how some people get their "information" solely from
movies; from pop culture representations, believing anything they see
on TV or in a movie to be the truth. It's shocking to me that some
people REALLY DO rely on pop culture to get their facts! Madonna as
Peron's wife?! HAHAHAHAHA, you have GOT to be kidding.....and I think
they were!
I think the Simpsons have made a deeply ironic and self-critical joke
and in making fun of themselves, they can't possibly be aiming to
offend anyone.
Boys and girls, this Simpsons episode is just screaming to you to read
your history books. It's saying, in essence, have your fun and watch
the Simpsons, but also read and question....Check your facts using
multiple sources. Always think critically and make sure you have "the
whole picture".
If anything, this episode has got people thinking. And what can be
better than that?
