No figures from Phantom Events Anime Bento screenings, but they
couldn't have been great.

In DC, the screenings took place in 4 northern Virginia theaters and 1
suburban MD theaters. The 2 Baltimore screenings were 20 miles
outside of the city :P

The AMC Hoffman screenings of Robotech: Sahdow Chronicles and Full
Metal Alchemist: Conqueror of Shamballa had no more than 15 people (6
of them were DC Anime Club members with free tickets).

The Regal Ballston screenings had no more than 8 people for Castle of
Cagliostro and Karas: The Prophecy.

For the record, I was disappointed in all of the screenings:

Robotech: Shadow Chronicles has a lousy first act, builds up legimiate
momentum for the second act, then... POOF! ... it ends without much
resolution. The CGI spacecraft was of questionable quality. The male
and female characters were distinguished mainly by the size of their
chests (and the chicks' breasts seemed to get BIGGER over the course
of the film).

Full Metal Alchemist: Conqueror was like the final exam to a graduate
level course that I never attended. I've seen 8 of the first 12
episodes of FMA, and I was hopelessly lost. The Star Trek movies
never had this problem. FAIL.

The new Castle of Cagliostro dub was apparently more faithful to the
original Japanese dialogue (Thank you, Neil Nadelman!), but the
dialogue still seemed unneccessarily "roughed up". The ADR director
probably added some "craps", "shits", and "dammits" for no real
reason. I don't remember the much-maligned Carl Macek dub having this
problem, and that was the first Miyzaki film I had seen (and loved).
Macek's cast was better, too. (This new dub features a lame Zenigada
and a royal guardsman who talks like Arnold Schwarzenegger. Ja Wol!")

Karas has been described as a "visual feast". It's more of a force
feeding. The action scenes are incoherent. The narrative even more
so, juggling multiple characters and relationships without settling
down to develop any of them. This is supposed to be a collection of
the first three Karas episodes, but it feels like I missed the first
30. At least the "extra" episode 4 that followed the "official" film
slowed things down to a more coherent pace. To the film's credit, it
has enough inspiration in the production design for five movies. Give
the audience a chance to see it!

Terrence Briggs, looking for a Sat AM show worse than Dinosaur King.
Is Care Bears eligible?
Peace to you...
