7/27-29 Weekend Box Office

Information taken from Brandon Gray's
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/weekend/chart/

1 The Simpsons Movie $74,036,787 3,922 $18,877 $74,036,787
7 5 Ratatouille $7,455,594 -31.6%% 2,934 -468 $2,541 $179,904,396
19 18 Shrek the Third $634,797 +65.3%% 455 +47 $1,395 $319,835,929
27 26 Meet the Robinsons $169,082 -23.5%% 213 -18 $793 $97,375,823
30 28 Surf's Up $133,956 -29.7%% 176 -65 $761 $57,614,376
60 54 Paprika $12,812 -35.7%% 27 -5 $474 $748,012

Wow, I must say I'm surprised. I didn't think anyone cared about the
Simpsons anymore. Check out all these boxoffice records (not factoring in
inflation)

Biggest Opening Weekend, Cartoon movie of a Cartoon TV series:
The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie $32,018,216

Biggest Opening Weekend Wide Release, Traditionally animated movie:
The Lion King $40,888,194

All sailed pass. Did you know that "The Rugrats Movie" holds the record for
biggest overall U.S. boxoffice of a cartoon movie of a cartoon TV series, with
$100,138,851? "The Simpsons Movie" is poised to pass that as well.

I helped in seeing this movie on Sunday.

I keep wishing they'd put Lionel Hutz and Troy McClure in. Just so long
as they don't say anything, it'd be nice to see them again. (Yes, I see
Billy West raising his hand. I repeat
-- So Long As They Don't SAY
Anything.)

Were Sideshow Bob and Uter anywhere? I kept hoping that they'd show
Bob in prison or handcuffed to Wiggum/another cop.

I didn't notice them, but those were some very crowded crowd scenes that
I'll have to wait for the DVD release to 'see' in detail.

Interesting
-- do they really exist in the Simpsons universe, or are
"Treehouse of Horror" stories 'imaginary'?

I like how, whenever they come to Earth, it's Springfield they aim for.

Wasn't there a "real" episode where we were looking at a quick
cross-section of items buried in the ground, and there was a spacecraft
(along with a buried treasure chest and other stuff)? Perhaps the one
where Bart fell in the well. At the time, I had the impression there was
something Kang-ish about it. Maybe a giant, one-eyed skeleton?

Myself, I laughed a lot. However, now I notice that the movie has
suffered a very big 2nd-weekend drop...

Yeah, I remember that shot. I always thought Kang and Kodos were 'real'

a very very very VERY big drop. I was amazed. I'm not sure if word of
mouth killed it, or if just everybody that wanted to see it went the
first weekend.

Meanwhile, Underdog flopped right out of the gate.

They're running TV ads showing 'bloopers' with the dog flubbing his
lines. "There's no need to fear, underwear is here!"

yeah. That's good stuff.
