I finally saw "Kung Fu Panda" last weekend. It wasn't "Incredibles" level
great: I don't know where Jerry Beck got that idea. But forget about that.
Also, forget about the plot: a curiously religious story where you can make
somethin so by believing in it hard enough, and we all have a preset destiny
we can do nothing about altering. It's easy to spot the clues as to exactly
how Po will defeat the bad guy. Also, forget about the characters: I never
really connected with any of them, but I didn't dislike the characters.
Instead, just concentrate on the vivid color scheme. The movie was awash in
bright yellows, teals, and reds. And just focus on the fight scenes. :-) I
was impressed with the elaborate staging of each fight scene. The fights had
enough entertainment value for me to find this movie worth watching. So "Kung
Fu Panda" is a sure bet for some fun viewing. Also, I'd say that this was a
good kids' movie. Some parents have been complaining that Pixar movies
nowadays pitch too much to adult audiences. A simple but exciting movie like
"Kung Fu Panda" might be more to their liking instead.
And of course, I loved the exhilarating traditional animation of the
opening and closing sequences. Man, why couldn't the whole movie have looked
like that. The closing sequence featured some of the film's best sight gags,
the opening scene some of the movie's best action.
Maybe Dreamworks should do a wide rerelease, to tie this movie to the
Olympics.
