7/20-22 Weekend BoxOffice

Author: Juan F. Lara

Information taken from Brandon Gray's
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/weekend/chart/

5 3 Ratatouille $10,899,179 -39.5%% 3,402 -223 $3,203 $165,519,955
18 15 Shrek the Third $384,110 -42.0%% 408 -236 $941 $318,937,940
26 52 Meet the Robinsons $220,955 +1,268.0%% 231 +180 $956 $97,002,175
28 23 Surf's Up $190,516 -38.2%% 241 -162 $790 $57,329,096
52 47 Paprika $19,938 -19.7%% 32 +5 $623 $720,502

"Shrek the Third" finally made it to dollar cinemas around here. WORST
animation of realistic CGI humans I've ever seen. Stiff movement, creepy
realism, and BAD skin. The film brought back repressed memories over how
horrible the humans in "Final Fantasy: the Spirits Within" looked. And Heaven
help us when a character has to move quickly; a lot of hiccups in the movement.
The writing didn't help either. The movie featured the lamest means of
defeating villains since touchy-feely cliches were invented. The poor king had
to undergo the most tastelessly staged death scene ever. And they wouldn't let
up with the bad oldies pop songs. For all of that this movie still makes
$320M+ ? :-(

This week, let's see if the Simpsons will succeed where the Aqua Teen
Hunger Force failed. :-)

(Well, people have HEARD of the Simpsons--
That's basically the one thing it's got in its favor.)

Worse: Vermont.

Not Boston
-- Springfield, across the river from here. (I'm in West
Springfield, the town Mike Scully was born in.)

The sequel making a lot of money from showing up I can understand. But
THIS much money? More than even the original "Shrek"?

It turns out the movie is getting strong word of mouth, judging from
the Rotten Tomatoes reviews.

Well, it's good to know that Ratatouille broke even with its production
costs at least.
$165.5m gross / $150m budget
(same site)

I'm kinda surprised it's still at #5 though.
Are these just the US domestic figures?
