I saw "Bee Movie" that weekend. I think what kids do are completely tune
out the plot and just concentrate on the kitchy pretty background artwork
( Barry's hive looks like a theme park pavillion...

Seems to be a lot of momentum for promoting the movie as "The next
family classic" and "The next great Disney Princess", which is certainly
a 180-degree away from the reason the movie was originally written in
the first place...
(During the post-Treasure "Eisner kisses up to Shrek to buy back our
love" days of the early 00's, back when Rapunzel was still Unbraided and
Chicken Little was going to build a new studio.)

A dozen script rewrites later, the latest press-interview articles try
to spin the schizophrenic tone of the movie vs. the marketing with a
strategic we-MEANT-to-do-that approach:
"Disney, fresh off its new success and new direction, decided they were
in a position to gently spoof their old traditions..."

I saw "Beowulf" in 2D and the action was still spectacular (and bloody... and
sexy. Lord knows what the "R"-rated international version looks like). The
characters' faces weren't quite right (again), but I sort of got used to it.

Speaking of overseas boxoffice, I read that "Ratatouille" recently passed $600
million worldwide ...it's even the year's #1 movie in France! Sweet.
