REQUEST FOR DISCUSSION (RFD)
moderated group rec.ponds.moderated
This is a formal Request For Discussion (RFD) for the creation of the
moderated Usenet newsgroup, rec.ponds.moderated.
NEWSGROUPS LINE: rec.ponds.moderated
rec.ponds.moderated The enjoyment and management of recreational ponds and water gardens (Moderated)
RATIONALE: rec.ponds.moderated
Rec.ponds was founded in 1994 for backyard pond enthusiasts to share
experiences and information. For most of its existence rec.ponds was
an active and thriving Internet community of long-term ponders as well
as newcomers to the hobby.
Around two years ago rec.ponds became inundated with trolls, flames,
forgeries and destructive crossposts. Most of the rec.pond regulars
fled to mailing lists or forums where they could discuss their hobby
in relative peace. A few remained to answer questions from newcomers
and to attempt to rebuild the community that previously existed.

Removal of NGP and NAN, Both are moderated forums and they have admitted
in the past to censor any discussion they do not agree upon, this would
inhibit free and open discussion of all rec.pond regulars and related
news.group affected by rec.pond current crisis.
I would encourage regulars to snip out NGP and NAN from the discussion,
since they have already decided on the moderated news group and the
proposed RFD is matter of formality.
Rec.ponds is in Crisis and the RFD does not deal with the root cause of
the crisis.
It is an Aspirin to alleviate the headache, but not knowing what cause
the pain, means that eventually when the aspirin effect diminish, the
pain will return. A good Dr. looks for the root cause, and deal with the
problem there. Let examine the RFD to point out where the root cause is,
and how this aspirin eventually may lose it pain numbing effect.

If it is not important, why do you need a moderated group?

You're main and biggest problem is that nobody looks to see how many
groups this is crossposted to. If the last poster might earnestly limit
his Pythonesque argument briefly and clarify as to why I read this
crossposted in alt.usenet.kooks after following another particicularly
crude assault that ends up in many groups (including ba.broadcast),
perhaps the pathology of this misery will show one tiny strand of the
problem.
Does "news.groups" cast any light in your tunnel? Go back and look
please.

It isn't important to find the root of the problem to recognize that there
is a problem.
>I notice only two, using many sock puppets.
That may be true, however I gave up believing in the absolute accuracy of
tracing identity some years ago.
>How?
I don't know how exactly, you'd probably have to ask each individual.
>I counted at least 5 groups.
Some have 5, some have more, some have less. It varies.
>Lets hear from them.
As they say, I'm "all ears."
>for just two trolls?
It's amazing what some folks will go through.
>Ok, who? You would think, that this would have been attempted before an RFD.
I don't know who. It probably was attempted, many times.
>Then why mention private forums, if they are not relevant?

So take, take the aspirin. If it a migraine, it will go away, but if it
is a brain tumor, prepare to die.
